Really liking the sounds of this, a hybrid could potentially be the best of both worlds.keeping the low end grunt but really extending the top end. The claim here is a 30% increase on top end without decreasing low end. That's a big claim. The PT skins already have good range extending that top end could be next level. Coming from kitesurfing I am really looking for that kite like performance from a parawing. I am used to riding 5, 6 or 7 in winds over 30 knots, I kinda feel like parawings should be able to hold that kind of top end as well. Not saying I'd use that size pwing in those winds but having really good top end, especially in a 4m size would be very useful to me. I have been thinking of upgrading my 4.2 Dwing, might have to wait till these have dropped before I do.

I feel like these guys might be just rushing products into the market without adequate testing and trimming. Lots of good sounding words but after my experience with how bad the UDW 5.6m is I would definitely want to demo anything of theirs before parting with $$

Interesting, what issues are you having with the UDW? There really hasn't been much info about the UDW at all. The PT skin has had tons of great reviews. I bought a 3m PT skin just based off reviews and was very happy with it. Then I bought a 5.4m pt skin as well because I really liked the 3m. I have only had 1 session on the 5.4 so far but it definitely feels like a great wing.

777's original twin skin PW seemed like a flop. Then they kinda nailed it with the PT skin. Now the UDW I thought it was a bit too soon to get reviews but I'd definitely be interested to hear your thoughts gradient

I tried the initial 777 PT double skin on land and found it tricky to fly and pack down but only used it for 5min, so not even close to a fair test. I bought the 3M PT skin and absolutely love riding it. Light, good upwind, easy to fly and easy to pack down into a tiny bundle. Nearly bought the 4M UDW but hearing mixed opinions (Ozone PowerPack on its way to me soon). Looking forward to hearing reports on the 777 hybrid; seems like that could be the way forward for wind range, upwind, and still maintaining a decent pack-down size.

The handling on the UDW is shockingly bad, it has a very heavily braked trailing edge that isn't released when trimming the bar for speed so as soon as the wing falls back a little it wants to go all the way and fully stall. This means in gybes it always falls behind an either stops you dead or re-engages with a massive sturge to the front of the wind window. It shows this behaviour in the re-deploys as well, if it doesn't engage the airflow high enough in the window it stalls first and then surges. You cannot de-power by hanging off the A lines because it collapses (the front bar extension therefore makes no sense) so your de-power is to edge hard which is fairly limiting in wind range for this size wing so the effective wind range where it's actually a comfortable ride is tiny. I'm not a reflex trimming expert but my guess is this wing has little to no reflex to push the centre of pressure further back from the leading edge to get more bottom end power. All the best new wings have quite a lot of reflex which is why the leading edge is almost impossible to collapse while riding and gives you all that de-power. The Ozone Power Pack solved the bottom end power with a deeper camber and has a huge top end due to the leading edge stability. The UDW has the opposite with a very shallow camber which would be good for upper end speed but because it collapses already at 15/16 knots that potential top end isn't usable. I did find a wind window of a few knots where it does ride nicely as long as you're hooked in where the leading edge is stable and you're not over-powered so this is a very specific toy. It definitely doesn't do what it says on the box and I remember quite a few disappointed folks trying to re-trim the original PT which is why I think 777 is rushing products into the market without enough testing and refinement which is disappointing for a premium priced product.

Damn, sorry to hear about your experience with it. I came *really* close to ordering the UDW over the pt skin, phew.

Thanks for your honest and detailed feedback Gradient. It certainly sounds like you have put some time and thought into using this wing but it hasn't turned out well.
By chance I stumbled across this video of the 5.6 UDW that shows a lot of the characteristics you're talking about. Also in the video you can see how thin and flimsy looking the leading edge is, the leading edge is collapsing in what appears to be quite light wind.

Interesting how when a product works well, like the PT skin, we get tons of info and reviews on it. When something doesn't work well we get kind of an awkward silence. The original pt twin skin from 777 got very little feedback and there's been almost nothing about the UDW. I bought the pt skin after seeing a bunch of positive reviews and am really happy with it, happy enough that I bought another size.
So far not the best track record for 777 but I will still remain hopeful for the hybrid.

Also worth mentioning, I asked the 777 team on FB to clarify what they meant about an extra 30% top end. They confirmed that size for size comparison to a PT skin the hybrid would get an extra 30% top end wind range as long as your using a harness and have decent flying skills.

Just get the mesh put in where you think it's needed .

I use a 3 and 4 m2 PT Skin. And that happens to me from time to time.
I solved it by learning to gently tug the D-line at the opposite end and the wing pops up from the water immediately. And you can get going and the water simply drains.

I have had the leading collapsing a bit on the 5.4m when flying it on the beach in strong winds. I haven't really had it when riding though and have had it out in up to about 20knots

The solution to the leading edge collapsing is to maintain a bit more even line pressure. Edge harder to draw the wing forward in the window which will help to depower it. Of course if you're too overpowered to hold the edge you might need to change down.

I'm very stoked about trying the small sizes, hoping the 2,4m might be the perfect high wind parawing as it will probably be great at handling gusts and the extra material will likely be very manageable in the 3,1m and 2,4m sizes. As I'll likely want a smaller foil in higher wind it also allows to go slightly overpowered without being penalized for it.

Not sure how much we can glean from a sponsored post, but they say it does everything pretty well. Big range, easy stow, etc. not sure how it positions itself against the pt single skin. Would expect the single to stash better but they say the battens accordion better on the hybrid and it looks like it packs down pretty small.
im sure more unbiased reviews are coming very soon.

Interesting that it's not a very HA design. Looks like the rounded wing tips and the way it accordians up should make it pack very well. I have to say I'm a bit tempted. I am a heavy guy so for me getting a 4.3 or 3m with a ton of top end would be great. Can still have the power to get up but will hold well into the upper range.
Kite addiction has them advertised for pre order on their website. Good to see they will be available locally here in Perth. Prices are certainly not cheap though!

My First-Time Impressions of the PT Hybrid 4.3 by Triple Seven
Like:
- Very smooth, comfortable power: it feels like holding an inflatable kite, not a parawing
- Incredible gust resistance: when the wind picks up sharply, the loop slides along the harness hook and the angle of attack changes, instantly and smoothly shedding excess power
- Lightweight and compact canopy thanks to the use of lightweight fabric, despite the double skin on the leading edge
Dislike:
- The bag is too simple: I'd like more functionality, so I could take it on the water as a backpack

Conclusion:
I don't know if anyone has made hybrids parawing before, but this was my first time trying this technology. I was worried that the double skin on the leading edge would make it more difficult to fold, but I had no problems. Method 4A's gave me 100% redeployment. It goes well upwind, but I didn't feel any particularly wide upwind angles. But it's a pleasure to ride! You lean back in the harness and your arms feel completely relaxed. You can ride upwind like a kite foil: for hours without getting tired. I'm impressed! I highly recommend giving it a try.
