Had a bit of a giggle today.
Pulled out this board from the back of my shed, and thought how fun would it be to have a retro day somewhere

perhaps we could all bring out our 80's gear and have a sail somewhere.

Would be interesting to see how this stuff compares to the current equip.

Grumps that looks pretty similar to my first glass board...Warren Thompson shape circa 88.

Buggerall rocker and the other thing you notice is how far forward the mast track is!!

I sailed my Santosha for ten years or so til one too many flat landings resulted in a nasty delam. Great board.

Looks like a really nice surfboard. Can you remember how it rides Grumps?
What was the reason behind putting the mast track so close to the nose?
Maybe if you were to get a new mast track put in the middle it could be a sick little board? Whats the volume?

Have to confess it was a mates first, and I bought it off him.

No idea of volume, dont think it is mentioned, but would probably be around 75-80

yep, virtually no rocker, reckon it could probably go well as a speed board.

having the mastrack really forward was the style of the day Greenie, have thought about putting another one in further back.

Looks good to me, bet weight might be an issue compared to modern boards tho?

the paint job and finish looks better than all modern boards,,,,

nope, just all sugar coated fantastic for the knees

I'm told that mast track forward was due to the sails having a very rearward centre of effort and so much draft movement which made it get worse in stronger winds.
They made the widepoint a long way forward also so dunno about putting the track further back probably would not work?

Some of the late 80's boards, like JP's Strappers, have really modern rocker and shapes and they still ride niiccceee. Just not much jumping action and take a while to get up n plane

Forgot all about the sugar deck and how much it used to wear down the feet.
Such a nice looking board, I can't bear to pitch it.

The oldest thing i have is a neil scheltema ? windtech wave board probably about 65-75 lts double concave turns nice but is just a bit long and narrow.
