i want a decent job done..my quality control standards are sadly lacking.

It's not so difficult. I did mine and the regrip has lasted a couple of seasons so far. The hard part is getting all the old grip off a carbon boom.

It's not so difficult. I did mine and the regrip has lasted a couple of seasons so far. The hard part is getting all the old grip off a carbon boom.

..and since Severne showed us that its easy using thinners, its not so hard any more. The thinners trick is incredible. The grip just falls off and makes you wonder why no one knew of it before.

most of grip already gone.
will try thinners tomorrow to get the rest off.
can you still buy boom regrip kits.?

Mr Stratfold is the guru, did a great job on my carbon MS boom , it looks like new as I got the original MS grip from Paul @2nd wind and Steve fitted it

A great DIY video for those inclined. I recall Kimba did an instructional video too so will chase up link.

Has anyone re-gripped their boom with the seam on the outside?

I have a couple of carbon Chinook booms, and both of them have/had sections where I have ripped off the grip just from gripping it with my hands. Chinook also have their lettering and different colours done with different pieces of eva grip.

I looked at where my fingers rest and where they grip under pressure, and the only place I could think of was the outside, half way up.

Am I going to regret this and end up ripping my grip off really easy?

Another bonus I got was that the replacement grip I fitted from SSA seems to be thinner than the original grip, so it feels more solid, and a slightly smaller diameter.

That Video makes it look really easy

Formula, you can do the join on the outside with plain grip, most factory grips have graphics so don't have much choice. It will be fine if you used enough glue.

The main trick, I found, is to stretch the grip lengthwise a little as you go around the curve at the front of the boom.
This makes it curl around the boom and also eliminates puckers on the inside.

I have got two NP X9s both have been re-gripped, one has the seam on the inside,the other on the outside.
IMO the one with the seam on the outside is better for me as your fingers do seem to put to much wear on the
seam.

Old Carbon Booms are usually difficult to strip because they used to use good quality glue.

The modern ones are easy as they only use Clag which is water based

When I grip my own personal booms I always use plain black & put the join to the outside although our production booms had the join at the bottom with few problems.

The hardness & colour of the grip also has a bearing on adhesion for some reason.

I used to always encourage people to have a go at it first, that way they they were happpy handing over the money when I did it for them

By the way we don't do regrips any more but can recommend Steve Strat as he does a good job.
