It might be raining and cold but we are working on plans for next summer. What should WWA do to drive youth windsurfing in WA?

We are working on it. There is a group out of Fremantle Sailing Club who are progressing fast. The key is how to bridge the gaps between learning, harness + foot strap and then foiling.

Re Foiling
This comment was in the New Zealand Windfoil Facebook page and I found it quite interesting..
a question was asked about why the Nz system Seems to be working so well.

MadLoop WindSurf School has been teaching WindFoiling since August 2016,
It's normal that, once we can get a person leaning over to windward , and making a learner windsurf board plane, we then go straight to WindFoiling , and we use a 90 cm wide WindFoil board with Axis, or Starboard Super Cruiser Foil .
This system works well, and we are getting lots of people WindFoiling as a result of this

Foiling is definitely part of the overall plan and sailing club kids are drawn to foiling like moths to a flame. Their choices are sail a dinghy designed in the 70s or foil. Easy to pick which way they will go. But do we risk building one dimensional windsurfers with very specific skills and potentially limited skills?

Everyone foiling at the moment has done the hard yards learning windsurfers foundation skills before tackling foiling. Rapidly introducing foiling could work but we need to take a cautious approach.

The WA windsurfing family is a mixed bunch. One of the challenges we face is supporting all aspects of the sport be it racing, waves, freestyle, slalom or just having fun on the water.
