Apart from 'the pond', Safety Bay, where else do people sail? How come noone seems to sail on the lakes? Is it prohibited? Or just no good?

Mate seriously, why would you sail in a 'lake' when you could sail the ocean? Living in Perth.

There are a few lake spots where people go speed sailing on occasion, but they've got very specific wind directions that they work in. The ones that I know of also involve a loooong walk in with your gear, so you've got to be keen.

Generally in summer we get decent ssw seabreezes most afternoons (supposedly), which makes for really good sailing on the coast and river, not so good inland.

If you're moving to mandurah, most people sail on the estuary, I believe, and wave sail on the coast., rig up at novara boat ramp at the estuary, and talk to some locals before you head out. the estuary is pretty good sailing but there are some submerged rocky areas to look out for....

Well there is a lot of sailing done in the Mandurah Estuary, not actually a lake I guess.

No worries Mark, apparently, community pressure has done the trick. It's now motorised vessels only affected.

Most (if not all) of the metro lakes are protected and so water sports are prohibited.

And why would you want to sail in stinky lake water anyways when the beach is down the road!

Thanks for all the information, I'm currently in Vic (moving to W.A. in September) so was unsure of what the lakes over there are like. They look great on google earth!!
