Looks as though it won't be too many years before we will be rigging in the carpark looking at some of the piccies in that story !!

The park needs to be 200m north and won't erode. That is the simple solution......... but the wealthy types won't allow it in front of their mansions.

The sensible thing would be a sea wall in front of what they want to protect, 6 foot below water level and up to grass height, in a few years it might go back to how it was in the late 80s xand the wall will be burried. Otherwise just keep carting sand, there is heaps of it in lancelin, me and the kids call it sandcelin. Was pretty short sighted to put the park where it is. Beaches always move around. But it is nice grass.

You are right it was short sighted.
The issue is there is a 400m long carpark totally unused, just to the north. The dunes should have been levelled and grass planted there.
But certain types don't like that for selfish reasons. Old timers even said not to build it there, but nooooo......
Look at what Jurien and Geraldton did in the last few years , and their foreshores are now beautiful.

The other issue is that this problem is faced by a few areas. 10yrs ago it was Esperance. Soon it will be Denmark, or Margies or whatever. Who knows.
The Govt won't help, and local (small town country) Shires can't afford a million bucks to protect 200m of beach.
The State Govt needs to step up and pay to protect these areas.

coastal erosion = nature. Sea levels are rising due to climate change (scientific consensus is about 1m by turn of the century, and every metre rise removes about 100m of coast- so there will be more coastal erosion. There was an interesting talk about this in gero last week - one of the ways to help protect the coast is by building dunes, not removing them. Walls solve the problem in one spot, but move it somewhere else. There is no easy answer - but dont buy a house right on the beach is you want to pass it onto the kids/grandkids.

Bring back the good old days of lancelin, driving onto the beach and launching from your tail gate and no weed. But seriously a sea wall just in front ofthe park would protect it but it would have to be bigger than what the average pathetic attempts in wa are. I dont think launching would be a problem, drive onto the beach a 100m further south and its 100m wide and in a few months all the sand will probably come back and burry the sea wall anyway. Otherwise truck in 100,000 tons of sand and do the job properly, but even then mother nature could t a ke it all away in a week. I think the reality is if there isnt a reef at the shore, the beach can move a lot.

Used to surf lifesave with a oceanographer and he explained that sea walls tend to totally destroy the beach. It's happens when there is a big swell and the waves reflect off the wall and gouge the sand out. This is what has happened at Noosa and eventually the sea wall collapses.

And Werner is retired!!
He just had his last season! He'll still rent his gear but not on the beach anymore!
