Can anybody advise me on what sort of wet siut to buy? I don't know anything about them? I gather they come in differant thicknessess? Is there one sort in particular that will get me through a few sails in winter, without freezing my "nads" off. Or should I just go and see Jez at 2nd wind he would stock em wouldn't he?

Your best bet is to wait for the surf shop sales, they will have loads of different sizes to try on, and advice on what to get.

I use a 3mm all through winter, but then again I have loads of... erm... "Natural insulation" to help keep me warm

If you're skin and bones then perhaps a 5mm would be the go, try to get one with thinner arms so your movement isn't as restricted.

Booties and a helmet make a huge difference as to how cold you get, I was quite surprised

Depends upon your body shape as to what suit will fit. I am not medium height and there is not a suit from several manufacturers even close to my size. I recently bought an O'Neil Epic 4/3. Pleased with how warm it is but it is too tight on the arms ( despite 'Windsurf' having included it in a test and praising it.) Maybe it is because I have been working out but more likely that a non dedicated windsurfing suit is never going to have arms loose enough to be comfortable for windsurfing.
I recommend trying on may different brands and sizes. I ended up with a size I would not have chosen from the size charts..... try before you buy! (and maybe get it modified after buying) . Either way the suit I got is cheaper off the shelf and modified than getting one made to fit.

I bought a West Edge last winter and I love it...very comfy.

I opted for a S/sleeve steamer to have more mobility in my arms. Trade-off was that it's only 2mm, whereas the l/sleeve version is 3mm (2mm arms).

I wear a neoprene buoyancy vest as well, so I'm generally warm enough. Winter storms in Perth tend to be Westerly or Nor Westerly, which is not too cold. If it swings South however.......BBrrrrrrrrrr. Brass monkey stuff!

You can spend a fortune on a good suit, so shop around. What I notice about my new suit, compared to an older Peak wettie I bought ten years ago, is how much more flexible they are.

For WA, around Perth, I'd suggest 3/2 full stretch with sealed seams.

Buy the best wetsuit you can afford. Otherwise you'll be cursing yourself for the next 3 years every time you get cold, just because you saved $100 on not getting sealed seams.
