.hi everyone over west .I come over to sail every year( November - December) .i brought a different board last time with cut aways in the rear , F2 stoke 105 .so less board in the water alot faster .but it spins out in chop.at low speed have a maui fin 33" .weed fin .( had a 33" free ride fin with the board )
Im thinking it could be too small or have to have more outhaul l .I don't use weed fins over here .Totally different feel.
if I do need to get a bigger weed fin .what size is good for 7.0.6.5 .36 or 38 ? mainly sail at shark bay .safety bay .

Isn't the basic formula something like:
5 x Sail Size + 3

I use a maui ultra slalom weed 32 with my 7.3 and its fine and im 110kgs on a jp 78 130ltr

Yep I reckon the fin is ok maybe ,and it defiantly is a trim problem then .
trouble with the F2 is the rear foot straps are right on the outside edge of the board .maximises pressure on the
fin .
never had this problem with the mistral 105 Syncro.same fin same sails .im 95 kgs

foot straps in might solve the problem .weed fins ..don't like em but you gotta have em .

Hi Tardy I always sail a F2 stoke but a 117. Use a 36 jp weedy with my 6.6. But I always sail single inboard rear strap. Not the fastest ( 33 to 35 ) but good upwind and allround fin that gybes well also. Normally see them come up second hand often.

Southpirate's calculation seems very reasonable.
Having said that, not all fins are equally good.

16-22 knots I use JP Weed 36cm on my 115L / 7m. I use the same fin on 135L/7.5m too.

22-26 knots, I use JP Weedwave 26 with 115/7m.
...Amazing little fin.

When over 25 knots I use 96L FSW with JP Weedwave , and 6m sail.
At 100kg+, I don't use sails under 6m.

Thanks guys .i might invest in a 35-36 " as I'm heavy on the rear foot .the worse that it could do is rare up and dance ..
then I'll just move the mast foot forward .and boom up .

Ok thanks for the tip .Jimbo...I' guess I'll never get use to looking down and to see your fin trailing in the water behind you .

I have noticed the weed fins do make it feel as if you have a slighter longer board than you have .

With a normal fin,if I'm over finned ,instead of changing it ,I move my mast base forward to help keep the nose of the board down in the water, to stop it riding up.( that what I kinda meant)

weed fins are very useful for running over cray fish trap ropes,which are every where at some spots in WA.
my stoke has inside strap wholes for two straps .no single .Its a very fast board .Stokes are great boards .

it was only in short chop where I was spinning out .down at safety bay in flat water it had no problem with the straps on the out side position .Amazingly fast ..out side behind the weed bank ,speed runs ..what a rush.great place to sail.

Lucky you.. i have a mate there too ,he stores my gear ,see you on the water in December...order 20 knot every day please.

A week in shark bay .followed by A week in safety .plus a a couple days in coro in between ,can't bet it .

just about every year since 1998.i remember the pond when it wasn't closed in ,you could sail right through.

just to keep on the subject ..yes you need a weed fin .A race sail is good to have ..some very fast race sailers down there .

just don't put your feet down behind the board...seen many a foot sliced here at LG.
Had one poor mate drive the 400 ks from Adelaide and getting stitches as he was walking out first time. He didn't even get on the board.

Had a look at safety bay earlier in the year looks good.

The trailing edge can be very sharp. I sand down the trailing edge on my weed fins a bit.

Oh yeah ...had the odd SHIN chop from beach starting ..

I have noticed some weedy's throw the weed better than others .I guess it's the angle.
my maui fin throws it alot better than my mates JP .he" s always complaining .it was a weed versus water day.

once he flipped his board over to clear the weed ,and a sea snake had. Wrapped itself around it .

It swam off .but lucky he didn't grab it ,as we found out it was a poisonous one .So the guys at the pub told us anyway .
