This is a WWA email from last month, but I haven't heard anything since;

"WWA September Newsletter

Hi,

The season opening social will be held at Lucky Bay, Applecross (cnr Dunkley Av/Cunningham St) at 2pm on Saturday 17th October. We will book the seabreeze in and fire up the BBQ so come along and have a sail, a snag and chew the fat with everyone as we come out of hibernation.

WWA will shortly be moving to a new website. The web address will be the same, but it will just look a little different. There will be a transition in the next couple of weeks where it is not possible to renew your membership on the existing site before we transfer over to the new site, this should only last a few days and we will put a note on the website to indicate this. If you have already renewed your membership then you will be sent an email with the login for the new site. The new site gives us more functionality to manage WWA behind the scenes, post articles, results and works out cheaper than the existing site.

With the new site we are hoping to add a members' business directory, so if you run a local business and want to advertise it on the site then please get in touch by replying to this email for further information. We are also in the process of buying a new trailer to replace the one that has recently been condemned. There will be advertising space on this so again please get in touch if you want to advertise here.

In other news we are expecting to run a full season of events this Summer, with wave events in Geraldton and Margaret River and race events at Leeman, Cervantes and Carnarvon. The Safety Bay slalom series planning is underway but we are still short of volunteers to make the full series happen so if you want to see the series happen and are able to help out please reply to this email.

Youth windsurfing is now more popular then ever and the Margaret River, Perth and Geraldton groups are busy planning their schedules for the season. If you're not on one of the email lists for those groups already then please reply to this email for more information.

Happy sailing."

Hi Crew,

Snides you have hit it on the head. We are really short on volunteers.... is there anyone out there who can help?

We need someone on the start boat and to set up the course in the morning. We need someone on the rescue jet ski, we need someone on the finish line.

These racing events are not run by paid workers, the are reliant on volunteers. We have put out a few messages via Seabreeze and email seeking helpers but are falling very short. The season is planned with SBYC and WWA and I am happy to run it but can only do soo much.

If we don't have enough volunteers to run the event then it wont happen, that would be a very sad outcome as I know alot of the WA sailors love race day!!

The planned dates are:
24th October 2020
21st November 2020
19th December 2020
30th Jan 2021
13th Feb 2021
13th March 2021

If you can help or have someone in the family or friend circle who can help can you please speak up now?

Cheers,
Jo

I'd happily get down earlier to help set up the course etc. Id like to still be able to race when the racing starts if possible though. I'm also happy to help put the boats and marks away after etc too.

Thanks for the replies guys I will make an effort to be there to race on Saturday. I'm aware a couple of Kitesurfers have stepped in to volunteer on the day which is great and maybe we could return the favor on their twintip race days? Could be a good arrangement going forward.

At this stage, the committee are looking at whether this can be a sustainable series.

Primo will post either today or tomorrow to advise if it is on.

Hi all,

Jo is 100% right we need commitment and volunteers form the windsurfing community or family and friends who can help with race set up and start boats finish lines. At this stage SBYC and Kite guys are willing to come around on Saturday and help but we still not 100% sure if we get enough volunteers to run the series. I think the best approach would be to show up on Saturday, see how many of us there is and what roles still need to be filled and decide amongst us who can fill them. The forecast looks possible but a bit iffy, i think it still would be good to come and talk on how the series should look like and who can commit to volunteering. There are couple of ideas that we could discuss with SBYC such as maybe running races on the same as Kites and have separate heats and support the other class with volunteering. We would need to discuss logistics to ensure safety and equal amount of heats for both classes. second option is that we commit to volunteer on their weekends and they volunteer on ours. I think first step is to meet on Saturday around 10-11am in the club and decide what we want to do and who is ready to commit their time to keep the Safety bay slalom series alive. Let me know your thoughts and let me know if you will be there. cheers Premo WWA/SBYC

I'll be there Sat.
more than willing to volunteer any which way if it means we get a series in. Will be good to discuss options.
I've gotta say thanks to the WWA volunteers for everything they do. Its a thankless job sometimes.

Yeah i'll be there on saturday to help if possible. It might be even worth running in conjunction with the kites to reduce the need for volunteers etc.

Started out fairly light but built during the day to be decent at the end. Was a magic day on the water. Thanks again to SBYC and WWA for putting on such a great event. :)

What's up with the divisions?
Does this affect heat placement, or is there still a seeding round in Round 1?

depends on numbers, if we have enough sailors we will run 2 or 3 divisions, last round we had 12 sailors and we run 1 division
