Unfortunately this is a kiting video showing how flat and uncrowded the spot is with no windsurfers anywhere in sight.

It looks like it was taken quite early in the day before the Doctor really kicked in.

Add another 40 kites into the mix and 20 windsurfers and it reflects reality a little more.

It does however show how beautiful the spot is, I have never seen this perspective.

I grew up in Rocco/Safety Bay and we used to knock off high school at 2.40pm. My mate and I would ride our BMX's to his place in Waikiki and get our surfboards and go to WackyWacky beach if it was windy.

No wind we'd grab our snorkelling gear and go where the pond is now and catch blue swimmer crabs. It used to be 8 foot deep and full of sea grass and be all open with just a sand bar off shore. No pond at all. In fact there is a jetty there completely landlocked now we used to fish at night from. Massive schools of herring and the odd flathead and cobbler.

The sand bar broke through the surface in 83 and by 90 had plants on it. That now is the outer edge of the pond and it has engulfed the jetty and connected to the mainland.

Amazing how nature changes.

By building the causeway to Garden Island and stopping the natural coastal flow of sediment you mean?

The causeway is a fair way away from the pond.

Nice video! and it looks so shallow!
...I checked the website from Heliphoto and apparently they use radio-controlled helicopters in these aerial views, maybe that could be a reason why they filmed it in the quiet morning conditions.

The sandbar as I remembered it stopped moving once the greenies started planting shrubs on it. Same thing that has happened in Augusta.
