I am planning to move from Scotland to Perth area next year. I'm coming to visit last week in August. Looking for places to live, windsurfing spots, schools for my kids (11 & 13 yr), either North or South of the river.
I work offshore so do not need to be close to Perth CBD for work. So close to good sailings spots with good secondary schools.
I was told around Hillary is the best area!! Any other recommendations??
Any tips will be appreciated.

Hillary is fine very close to Pinaroo, good wind surfing in flat water! Some tea bags but ok! easy access to beach!
Hillary houses are not cheap to buy, suburb is close to train station and shopping, good schools are in the vicinity, good choice if you can pay $ 600,000.00 + for a house. May be good to look at surrounding subs as well!

You might also consider Mandurah, we have good wave sailing if the swell is big enough, and great flat water in the estuary. (Mandurah mob came second in the aussie GTC last year mainly because of our good conditions)
The public high school doesn't have a good reputation, (but is supposed to be lifting it's game), however the private schools have an excellent reputation.

depends what kind of windsurfing your after:

but

if i was working offshore and moving to WA for the windsurfing i'd either be moving 100 - 400kms north

if your into surfing as much as windsurfing then head 250kms south...

Rockingham or Safety Bay area is good flatwater sailing, nearly good all year round, as you can pick a beach from each side of the peninsula/promontory for the wind direction - good when you are on days off from FI/FO.

I'm going with Miller's idea

If on FIFO, a lot of employers will fly you from home (country airport) to Perth as well as from Perth to work site. They are that desperate for staff.

Move to Geraldton and work FIFO. Done.

Yeah agree with Miller and Mark.
Most people I work with live down south or north of Perth.
Its all about the lifestyle

I moved to Perth to make it easier for catching flights. but move has cost me my lifestyle of being able to sail/sup everyday. to basicaly not being able to get out at all.
I'd move back home tomorrow if i could and pay for the extra flights to Perth.

Live where you want to sail. Hillarys, Scarbough, Cottesloe, Saftey Bay. Unless driving for an hour or more through traffic appeals to you.

I dunno Joe. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Put Fiancee's career first. Had
4 sails, 2 of which were grovels in last 7 mths = 1 very depressed windsurfer.
Hoping to move closer to ocean in an attempt to improve situation.
Nothing will ever compare to living in Esperance...

You sure Perth is where you want to be Jan. Have a look at all options mate. Its a big state.

Yeah but Stoney you came in halfway thru the season, AND it was the worst season in 5yrs due to La Nina. Don't be disheartened, this season will be sick. Send me a P.M when coming Lano way and we'll do my spot

Thanks for all the reactions. Some of the pictures are amazing!

I plan to keep working in Norway, best rotation in the world. 2 weeks offshore, 4 weeks home! However I will spend 4 days travelling, so will have to live not too far from Perth. I will also need to keep wife & kids happy when I'm away!
Also if I decide to get an office job, then Perth is good, as most oil companies are there. This is very low on the priority though! (Could move again if required)
