Road trippping to Gero early November.
First time sailing up there so advice is appreciated.
I'll be staying around the Greenough River mouth area predominantly so mostly sailing that.
I'm a beginner so is there anyone i should talk to regarding etiquette or rules when surfing the Point Moore area?

if you are a beginner,don't venture too far out at point moore , could get your self into a lot of strife !!!!


try some of the safer beaches, like St Georges or take a trip to coronation beach. bit more user friendly for a beginner.

100% with windy here, if you don't go to Coro's you've seriously missed out.

Again if you're inexperienced Coro's can be deceptive in a reasonable swell, the further out you go the bigger it gets.
Don't be tempted to get out behind the break to gybe, you could end up with something over mast high breaking on your head. the waves start off nice and small, just make sure you attempt a gybe, before they get too big. There's also a lot of flat water before the waves start, my wife gets plenty of enjoyment without getting into anything above waist high.

I'd agree to give Pt Moore a miss. If you are having trouble you will drift north and end up miles out to sea (as it is a point ). Plus you could end up in Hell's Gates and that would nto be nice as a beginner.

However Coronation is a bay so its much more friendly if you end up drifting some distance and as the other fellas have said it has a nice big area before you find any waves

The point can be ok in the mornings if your not into crazy surf and is always the windiest place in gero, if your a competent sailor you'll be fine but like others have said you can get into trouble real quick. Just stay in the bay and dodge the kiters and its ok. I went as a complete novice on my first trip and found St Georges beach to be very user friendly, just watch the ropes on the lobster pots...they can be hard to see in the afternoon light and will pull you up real quick. It has a nice grassy rigging area with plenty of parking and amenities and on it's day has a nice little ramp for jumping. Sunset beach is also very good and generates a nice little wave near the river mouth. Coros is way better then any of the other beaches, nice big bay for flat water blasting and waves if your into them. It's the perfect place to learn to jump and perfect your gybe, saying that just go to Coros and be sure to take everything you need for a day trip, You won't be dissapointed.

Wicked bay for blasting and waves everywhere..... if you get washed through the the gates dont panic theres wind on the other side ..... sail for the end point you will make it.

Good place if the swells small for beginning .........

agree with the whole deceptive swell... haha

my first experience at coros was over last new years with a BIG swell 4.5m i think and was hilarious for me, did lots of swimming for the first half day, laughing my ar5e off for most of it, but it was big out the back, mast high was normal, just coming off the back was a nice big drop...

and sunsets was just amazing on new years day, thats what sold me on wave sailing by the time got home i had ordered a stoney


if your not confident spend some time swimming first, at least when you get to your kit you can water start

yeah give the point unless you want to get dumped, if its channel busting stay well well away from hells! few guys ride upwind near barrys but its pretty shallow and sucks dry, stick to corros, the bombie gets interesting in 3.0m

Don't sell yourself short, sail the point and enjoy. Inside the bay as far out as kiddies is flat and clear and you can't get into much trouble. Out side of kiddies is where the fun is and the best waves in Gero, just be sure of your own ability. The south side of the point makes for a good run down to sepo and back, approx 4 km return, easy sailing and a good 0 risk run to hone your skills. Have fun.
