Has anyone sailed Pinnaroo Point in a winter storm, does it work?

NW is pretty bad due to a big swell.

Yeah, come to think of it, those winter storms are munching away the dunes, suggests big shore break!

The shore break is non-existent, but it is super choppy and lumpy when the wind has backed from NW to W or SW. Chop (not waves) from everywhere make it very uncomfortable.

Unless u live kinda near there. SOR has way better options and for NOR if Pinna is 20nin away you may as well make it a bit longer and go Lano bay with smooth inside and some cross-very-onshore jumping on the outer

My fave is crystals in its day, Jurien point on WSW .... but 20yrs ago Crazy Waves South Beach before developers ****ed it

I agree, if I'm time limited I'll go there as it's less than 5 minutes away.

Just shows you how spoilt we are in Australia for options. When I still lived in Germany it was a 45 minute drive to the local lakes. No local wind meter or beach cam so it was always a guessing game. I remember countless times in winter driving out there all excited only to be greeted by a solidly frozen lake.

Have to agree. I was watching windsurfing tv interview one of the sailors at a Dutch beach. He was german, had to drive 3 hours to get there. Rig in the road and carry his gear 400m across the dunes. Then think wetsuit with golves and booties into the north sea.

We have it so good.

don't forget mullaloo. Less chop than pinnaroo, waves too and nice sandy bed for rolling in the shore dump. Sailed it few times over the winter years but never see any other sailors out. I launch from carparks north of main mullaloo area.

I was there (Pinnaroo) Yesterday with W direction. Very bumby ride but fun to ride along the coast past Hillarys to Sorrento.
I noticed fences blocking the way to the beach. I believe City of Joondalup is putting up a playground just when people are rigging and blocking access to the footpath to the beach. It is pretty annoying and really restrict access to the beach for windsurfers.
I think WA cruizer (peter) wrote to the council about this issue but it may be good for the council to receive more than one complaint about it.

Hay Nalberto

I noticed a few wing foils out there. Where you on a windsurfer? What size board and sail were you on?

I occasionally sail Mullaloo in winter storms I've never seen anyone out either. I rig near the surf club and sail in front of that. Waves can be a bit dumpy and close to shore.

Looks not to bad, this was not me. Unfortunatley the wind pick up just as he hit the water. He must have been very overpowered in 35 knots having rigged for low 20's.

Next time.
