Hi all,

I've just moved north of the river and I am looking for a new place to sail.

I used to live south of the river, and until the end of the season in the beginning of this year I've been windsurfing in Safety Bay (Rockingham). It was perfect for me (still learning jibes, but can easily waterstart and plan at full speed). The sandbar in Safety Bay is perfect for training jibes. I am still falling a lot (yeah..I know..that sucks).

I am a self-taught windsurfer (but have been sailing in Optmist and then Laser since I was less than 10 years old). I'm using a JP NWS 84 liters and NP Combat 4.7 and 5.3 sails.

I drove the north coast today and found Pinaroo - less than 15 min from my place - Safety bay should be 50 min to an hour away now :-(
It seemed to be a good spot (little choppier and open waters though). However, with my crappy jibes I'll be an easy shark prey!!!

Are there any other spot good for beginners here up north?

Those are good shots glb011 you would be very welcome up there if you can take photo's like that of crew who sail there
Pinnaroo is a good spot, but can get a bit bumpy with side chop at times. As seen in your photo's.
For flat water spots, Peli Point on the river North side (near Uni) and Melvile Beach for South side.

Pinnaroo is excellent when the swell is down. You can check the graphs for the swell prediction, and go sailing when low. I.E. Friday this week.
Otherwise it's challenging for beginners.

Mick puts more time at Pinneroo than anyone. If there is any wind, you will meet Mick for sure.

Pinaroo looks very similar to the place I used to sail (in Brazil). I had no problems sailing in very bumpy n jumpy condition, small surf launch, 25 knots of winds, falling from my jibes 2km away from the beach, waterstating and heading back to the beach.
But there was no sharks in Brazil! Here in WA is quite another story!

As someone has suggested, I've checked Melville Beach out (just drove pass though). I may be wrong, but it seems to me that we don't get a very good clean seabreeze out there.
Would I need bigger sail & board to sail there? I'm on a 84 liter board and 4.7 and 5.3 wave sails (I'm 81kg).

Regarding the pics…that was a good action sequence (and a great jibe). Please let him know and see if he would like to have those pics…
