Hi

I am pretty new to WA and am looking for somewhere to sail in a westerly that is close to the city (ie a sneak out of work sail) so it would need to be on the river.

I am assuming Pelican point is a no go, i have heard mention of majestic point but am struggling to it find on google, am assuming it is applecross.

Could anybody let me know where you sail at majestic point (and anything i need to avoid as i have some nice new fins !!) and exactly where it is, any other city sailing locations for a westerly greatly received !!!

thanks

Max

Melville waters just South of Point Majestic in the river. Called Lucky Bay.
Corner of Dunkly and Cunningham street. You cant miss it, car park and lawn to rig on.

To sail at Majestic point you drive to the end of Ardross St in Applecross. There are rocks between the jetty and Majestic point but you can work out where they would be!
It would be Ok in a westerly but more people sail at Lucky Bay, carpark at the end of Cunningham St in Ardross. Especially nice in NW you sail parallel to the beach.
Forget Pelican Point in W or NW.

Guys

thats great, many thanks

too many meetings today but great to have another location close to the office

I appreciate that this has been a ****e season but Perth really is blessed on the windsurfing front, i have windsurfing beaches 2 minutes from my house (mettams) and locations less than 10 minutes from my work (pelican point, lucky bay, point walter etc)

I have lived in many places but this is unique, now lets hope el ninio buggers off

My thanks again for help

I was hoping to sail down there on Thursday after work.
BTW, how was it yesterday? It worked..a sort of...at Pinnaroo's but I wished for a less choppy environment.

Hey Danijel, yesterday was pretty good at Melville.
Not all that windy (15-20ish in the gusts) and I was comfy on an 8.4, but pretty flat.

I thought about going to Pinnaroo, but the chop when it's W or WNW is particularly brutal. Seems to be a bit smoother in a true nor'wester though.

I had a great session @ Woodman Point, in Coogee. fully powered up on 7,0 reflex and 105 F2 Sx, super fast slalom sailing/flying:-) the only disadvantage is too many kites around but their numer drops when the wind picks:-) I was the only one out on a windsurfing gear, c'mon people we need to claim this spot back :-)
its a great spot for slalom and freestyle

The chop was not as bad as it can be, but it was still a difficult angle.
Sufficiently unpleasant to wish for a nice Melville run.

It was still marginal while I was there (12pm to 2pm), and I wished for a larger gear. One guy did well on a large 136L RRD and 7.5m.
Your large board (135 ? ) would have worked well.

I've only sailed at woodies a few times and its an awesome spot, flat flat water and plenty of wind. the only thing stopping me (and I suspect others?) is as you say, the number of kites in the prime spot and all the car break ins we hear about

I do agree though, its one of the best flatwater spots within reach of the metro
