Hi all

Sorry for the double post - I put this in Windsurfing/General before I thought of Windsurfing/WA

I'm coming from Ireland to Perth to live in a few weeks time.

I've been sailing for 15 years or so, I weigh 85kg, and I much prefer waves to flat water - but I'll take what I can get! I'll happily sail 4.0m and my largest sail has been 6.8m - but this is bigger than I really enjoy sailing.

I have three boards here in Ireland and am wondering which (if any) to bring with me. They are a 76L, an 85L (which I really like and have pretty much decided I will bring) and a 95L freewave.

Any advice will be much appreciated:
- should I bring all three of these?
- what are typical summer and winter windstrengths?
- should I think about gear for light wind / flat water as well as strong wind / waves?

Plus anything else that anyone thinks would be useful or interesting for a windsurfer new to WA

At 80 kg my main sail 80% is a 5.5 my main board 90% is a 88 litre quad I generally like to go out on a tad bigger gear than other guys my weight.
In winter fronts I use 4.2m 4.7 5.5 88litre or a 78 litre board
I get to sail heaps so I'm not that bothered to use bigger gear.
Winter winds are usually storm fronts.
Summer hmm judging by this years poor summer weather pattern it' been pretty cr4p in Perth, but when it does blow as above 1st sentence.

when you say the weather being bad this summer is it that the wind is not strong enough or is it just not blowing?

you have made a great plan by moving to WA....it is awesome

OK . This summer season has started out a bit slow with less windy days that usual. But that said it has been blowing for the last 3 days, with seabreezes above 20knots each day and the forecast is for 3 more days of fresh seabreezes.
I have had heaps of sessions since the end of november and should get plenty more till around early march when the seabreeze cycle changes.

During winter we get to sail storm fronts and they are pretty regular too.

All those baords you mentioned will get used here over the course of a year, but there is heaps of excellant second hand gear available in WA.

Sail wise I reckon 4.5 up to 6.0 would be about right for normal ocean sailing conditions here- again plenty of them available here second hand

Anyway, you will love it here if you like wind and the ocean.

As in wind not blowing season usually starts mid Oct not early Dec like this year.
