Lucky Bay is best in a norwester, because the wind is directly onshore and not blocked by anything you can sail parallel to the beach, but you mostly get those in winter before a storm front.
Good in SW SSW S W NE
SE and E are offshore, sailable, but if the wind is also light it can be hard to get back in without a centreboard.

Use the windgauge for Melville water to check for wind.
I find the Melville water windgauge (which is closer to Pelican Point) underreads for Lucky Bay in a norwester (you'll get 5 kts more at Lucky Bay), and overreads for Lucky Bay in easterlies & SE (you'll get 5 knots less at Lucky Bay) but is fairly accurate for westerlies, southerlies and SW. This is just my observation. I'd be interested to know if others agree.

I sail at Lucky Bay a fair bit but want to get some practice on the ocean so was thinking of heading down Safety Bay but I'm not really sure which part of the bay I need to be at.........is there a landmark / street name that I need to go to, to launch?
