Awesome conditions for the first round of the Maui Race Series 2012.

After having a serious ankle injury from late Feb to the 23rd of May, unable to do any physical exercise i finally made my way back into the slalom racing on Saturday with heaps of improvement to come.

Managed to steal a 3rd place and if i didnt crash the last gybe on the last race of my age division i would of placed 3rd and beaten Peter Bijl and came in second but it's hard work out there and more training to come

Pulled out of the afternoon racing to save my ankle.

Round 2:

With solid 7.0 weather in the morning for the pro fleet i managed a 4th overall which i was pretty stoked about.

Definitely getting my speed/fitness back. The Vector Volt 32cm in the Isonic 87 is awesome for this high wind rough water :)

Using the new Vector alpha 33, which is unreal top end and points well. Very soft feel with a slight rake to trim the board nicely.

I dont really have any windsurfing ambitions to hit 40 knots on the river any time soon. At the moment it's to go as fast as possible through the roughest parts of water i can find and to gybe around marks tight and come out with heaps of speed. ie Slalom in maui, fuerta and places like this.

Slalom is a brilliant concept whereby the sailors are at the same patch of open water, the same angle of sailing and the same course to navigate around and the abilities can be judged on that course, at that given moment and the true abilities, control and gybing is shown through at the finish line.

I have been hitting 35 or 36 knots at Kanaha, Maui. This is one of the roughest parts of water in the world, so im pretty stoked with that

Onya Izy You probably dont get to watch a lot of races being in them, but from our seats watching on Utube, most are won and lost at the turns. Keep at the turn skills, this will hold you in good stead.

I decided to sail my 7.8m Reflex 3 on the Isonic 107 for the entire day , except one race and it was blowing between 15 and 25 knots so it got a bit crazy at times but my speed was pretty good. The water is pretty rough and choppy and sailing out into oncoming waves and swell and then sailing in over the top of breaking waves etc it was an awesome experience and i actually managed to out gybe alot of the top guys on gear that was smaller when it was windy so was pretty stoked with that.

Hopefully I can make it to the pwa event in Vietnam at the end of November but depends on work and if it actually goes ahead.
