Hi Everyone,

I am new to WA and thought i'd say hello to all of you that post in this forum.

I'm living up in Butler and at the moment am in the process of getting some new kit from Reg at Windsurfing Perth so hopefully i'll be back out on the water very soon.

Does anyone else sail up near Butler or north of Perth, any ideas on sailing venues would be awesome as at the moment i haven't got a clue?

Depends on what your into, waves, bump and jump or Slalom
If its bump and Jump, Pinneroo is a good spot, lawn to rig on, shower but a 100 meter walk to water, and some kites to contend with. Entrance just South of Whitfords ave on West Cost drive.
Few guys sail waves out from there or from the Northern side of Hillary's boat harbour to the island for waves. Greenroom (on forums) is a good bet for this. Southern side of Scarborough beach also a good spot
River, if your into Slalom stuff, Peli Point on Northern side (there is a get together every Wednesday afternoon/evening for some fun race stuff. Join WWA for more information) or Melville waters, Lucky Bay on Southern side. Then there is Woodies or Woodman point on very Southern end and of course Safety Bay for a variety of slalom and bump and jump, with some waves thrown in.
Not sure if anybody sails regular up your way. I haven't found a good flat spot so dont go too far that way.
For even more fun, up to Lancelin which is about an hour or hour and quarter drive North of you for waves and slalom.

Thanks for that Mike, i was actually looking for a spot thats fairly flat and good for freestyle, what's the river like is it worth sailing or is it too gusty?

I went up to Lancelin last sunday but there was no wind but the place definitely looked very good, i haven't done a lot of wave sailing as i was an instructor for 4 years for Neilson and apart from Grenada the seasons i done were in Vassiliki in Greece and Bitez in turkey so all flat but nice and windy.

Are there any social events or any big windsurf clubs where i can show my face, say hi and get a few beers in me?

What year were u in Vass and Bitez? i was an instructor at Bitez a few years ago.

Oh and in answer to your other questions, I sail up North around Hillaries and Mullaloo. Let me know if you're keen and I can let u know where we usually meet. But for flat water, the river is best or Lancelin. The wind is pretty clean, it's an ocean breeze so not gusty. Do u wave sail or just prefer flat water? What kind of standard are u?

I taught in Grenada in 2001 and then Bitez and Gundogan in 2002 and then the last couple of years i taught in Vass, who was working at the centre when you were there?

I'll let you know when i get my new kit, im really looking forward to getting back out on the water!

I've been across here since last August and been out sailing once at safety bay so getting a bit desperate i can gybe well, sail about, i got my level 4 in Vass but think the next thing is to learn how to Vulcan which could be interesting!

If u are desperate for a sail we have spare gear. We're sailing today and tomorrow near Mullaloo.

Thanks Zed thats really good of you but i work from 9-5 mon to fri and get back about 6 so it'll mainly be weekends which isnt ideal but at the moment ive got to hold down a "sensible" job as a condition of my visa

hahaha no way i know a few of those guys, i shared a room with cisco in Grenada on my first ever season, i went to his wedding just before i came out here and Rod of steel and cheeky were my managers in gundogan!

Heard of the rest of them but never met or worked with any of them, happy times!

Cisco actually got knocked off his bike by a car which snapped the ball off of the top of his hip so he was in a wheelchair for his wedding, spoke to his misses the other day and hes just about up and walking again so that'll be just over a year he's been out of it for, he also owns a sail repair company in poole harbour now.
