Hi all....a little bit of advice please. After nearly 15 years living in Sydney, I've moved back to Perth. Prior to heading east i used to windsurf (slalom) quite a bit and am now very keen on getting back into it....but the gear has changed so much since I last looked at it. I want to buy a 2nd hand kit, but don't know what I'm looking for. Any advice on the best type of slalom board to get for a 40yo to get his wings again!!

Welcome back Roo.
More info needed
Height / weight
where you will be sailing
how often you hope to sail

Windsurfing WA (supported by Windforce) runs Weds night slalom at Pelican Pt from 5.30pm. A good place to look at some gear and ask questions. You need to be a member to take part in the slalom but Windforce provides pizza and coldies after which is an ideal time to ask questions.

Absolutely. I was in a similar situation 2 years ago (moved to WA, wanted to get back into windsurfing), and was also referred to Paul. Very happy.

i have seen paul bust his nuts to do the right thing by his customers in the past

and he is a walking encyclopaedia of gear knowledge- so take full advantage of his experience.

Steves Surf Shed/Sail and Windsurfing centre in Oconnor also provides great advice on gear ( specially slalom) and Steve is a very friendly and knowledgeable guy, unlike some other places he will get the right gear for you and not the gear that needs to be sold:-)
2ndwind and windforce are good shops too, its actually worth shopping around to see what each shop has to offer and get the best possible deal:-)

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. Quite amazing re the recommendations to see Paul at 2nd Wind. This afternoon, on my way home (and BEFORE reading any of your replies), I actually (and coinsidenetly) stopped off at 2nd Wind. I could not have been more impressed with his knowledge, but more importantly with his willingness to share this information with me. I stayed for about 40 min and learnt a hell of lot and at no point was I felt pressured into buy anything. I'll definately be going back to this shop and if at all possible and will buy what I can from there. In the mean time, will check out the clubs as well. Cheers

Just in terms of my specifics, I'm 41...6'3" and about 85kg. I'll be doing most of sailing at Safety Bay and if I'm realistic will only manage to get out about once a week.
