Just thought I'd share some historical trivia.

There's an article on WA surfing pioneers in the latest "Horizon" the RAC magazine. It includes this 1956 pic of Ray Geary.




This looks a bit like the trees at Yalingup carpark. Interesting there only seems to be one Mal with a fin, the other two boards are old long "cigar boxes".

Ray built a shack the other side of the sand hill, you guessed it a Geary's, for a long time the break there was known as "Geary's shack"

But now of course it's shortened to gearies.

I read that article just this morning. Very interesting. I never knew if the correct spelling was Geeries or Gearies or Geary's. I also wondered where the name came from. Thanks for that Decrepit.
