Mid holiday, was planning on heading to Lancelin or gero, but the forecast for the next 5 days looks dire... Now in Augusta, hoping to escape the trough, arrived too late to sail. Hoping for some tips on where to sail.

I had a quick squiz at the ocean beach, a few kiters out, but its bolt onshore, and what looked like a fair bit weed and some rocks to contend with. Is that the best option for bump and jump sailing?
The other option was the river mouth launching from the colourpatch cafe, that looked pretty gusty and maybe not enough wind for my biggest (5.6) with the wind shadow from the dunes.

Will be happy with gybing practise on flat water if that's all that's on offer.
Any tips, happy to drive for 45 minutes if that makes a difference?

This was deepdene yesterday arvo, works in an easterly or SE. Cross shore beach break, no one for miles, or mobile reception. You need a good 4wd. Let me know if going down there? Another option is the west Bay in the hook of Cape leeuwin, some jump opportunities if there is any swell. Beats the river mouth any day...

WA beaches all have tyre tracks on them. Can't you guys put the gear on your head and walk across the sand?

(I've nearly been run over 3 times in 60 odd years, 2 of those were on WA beaches! Cars where an East Coaster least expects them, and when they come from downwind in soft sand you certainly can't hear them )

Thanks, Only have 2wd, van might check out the west bay near the light house.

Launch on the back beach ... Half way from colourpatch to the camp site.. Big vacant block you can rig up on.... If swell not to big u only have to punch out through a couple of breakers then ur sailing in the bay...it's a couple of 100m south of the river cut in... sailed there a few days ago,, nuking wind arms are still shredded

Thanks for the info Windy, went there today and had a couple of hours well powered on a 5.2 First time I understood the term "Evil tack" but it was still a lot of fun

Kiters were really friendly, even when they realised I was windsurfing. Well worth the drive, feel like my mojo is returning

Anyone sailing at Augusta tomorrow (Sunday) might be plenty windy.

Had a blast on 6.3 racing sail. About 40km distance. Steve didn't fall of and did almost 60km! Couple of guys out on small gear and one gal having a blast too. Kites too. What a great place!

Im so desperate that Im gonna go there again tomorrow if the persistent green arrows hang around.

Man that place should have been blown away ages ago!

Is Augusta our only option? I've been searching for wind from Exmouth to Esperance and I cant find anything. Anyone got any other ideas for the weekend ahead?

I went down there two weeks ago, didn't stay out there long due to the massive swell. Big waves plus onshore wind = one scared little nebbian. Hard to get out past the breakers when it's dead onshore and large!

Seriously Augusta is shlt. If you are into waves, there are none. Honestly, exactly how Nebs described it. Dead onshore. I'd rather poke my eyes out than sail there. I've sailed it once on the estuary with Windy Miller as Margs had a minus zero swell forecast but heaps of wind. He wanted to go again but once was enough in this life time. Plus a 30 minute drive to flat water or dead onshore mush was not worth the effort.
Can you tell how much I rate the place

Had another sail on the flat water after a quick drive from Busso. Bit gusty but was planing 95% of the time. got down a bit late and left too early but thats the way sometimes. Looks like it gonna kick in again. terrible spot.

Four of us from Busso enjoyed getting smashed yesterday. And look, today was green all day. I went mtbing with the kids and missed out.
