As you are aware I am really up for coming over to Perth in mid / late Jan for 3 weeks to go up the coast

The issue I have is as follows and I am unsure what options I have.

All of my gear weighs 30Kg and that will leave me just 7kg for clothes ... Whilst I won't need many clothes during my trip I am concerned about the logistics and possible expense of arranging such a trip.

Given that outside of Lancelin the majority of accomodation options are camping, I am not sure how I go about sourcing all of the equipment for such a trip. I think ideally, you would maybe do this sort of trip with 2 or more of you as you could split the costs.

The flight deal ends this Friday and whilst I don't want to miss it, I am not sure how I go about arranging everything and I am not the sort of person who could just arrive in Perth with nothing arranged as that could be a real disaster.

Any pointers or advice would be appreciated.

ps - I have already spoken with Trish at Lancelin Lodge, so the first few days of the trip would be ok

For Gnaraloo you can stay in the cabins - no camping kit required.

For anywhere else, it really depends on how comfortable you want to be as to how much you'll spend on camping equipment. Cheap dome tent, stove, sleeping mat and stuff from a Surplus store shouldn't set you back too much, but it'll be hot and damn uncomfortable.

How about a Wicked Camper or similar? They're not too expensive and come with all the camping gear and you'll have wheels as well.

Look on www.gumtree.com.au for your camping gear, you may be able to find a backpacker/traveller on their way out of country trying to offload their van and camping setup

id vote for Geraldton, better chance of wind if it trough's out for a week, not much swell around this time of year, however we did have a huge 5m pulse last January and Gero was on fire!

So the talking is over and the flights are finally booked. 3 weeks arriving 20th Jan.

Now I have to try and come up with the best way of spending the 3 weeks. I think I will just go ahead and hire a camper van so that I can rock up and everything is ready to go.

I would not commit to Gero as if there is "no wind" what we really mean is no seabreeze, rather an early morning easterly that is unsailable at the beach. If you can, try to have a plan to be able to do a few days/week in Lancelin or Geraldton (if S - SW seabreezes are on) or be able to spend few days in Perth if seabreezes turn to crap you may get 20kn (early) morning easterlies
Or, get a surfboard and then u r happy with wind or no wind regardless of location.

I agree though, I am an indecisive one and I spent many sleepless nights thinking about booking the flights, but now they are paid for I now am really stoked about coming back to Perth for a Windsurfing trip.

I am going to heed your advice and get a beginner surf board / SUP for the windless days as I have always wanted to learn.

What is the most commonly referred to weather site for deducing whether sea breezes will be blowing or do the sea breezes not work like a conventional pressure system?
