Mate, Perth is the second windiest city in the world. My biggest sail is 5.0m, I don't think I have ever seen anyone sail anything bigger than a 6m!

Mate, Perth is the second windiest city in the world. My biggest sail is 5.0m, I don't think I have ever seen anyone sail anything bigger than a 6m!

I used a 5.8 on Sunday !, could have used a 4.2 on Saturday though but only had my 5.0 with me. Depends where / what sort of sailing you are doing but unless you weigh a lot you will definitely need some smaller sails. My largest is 7.3

Dude, during that time (July - Nov/Dec) youll need everything from your 8.4m to a 4m
There will be plenty of days to break out the big gear.
Good luck on the traffic modelling, god knows we need it in Perth.

Elmo's got a 9something, I'm 65kg and have a 6.6, use it from 10 to 20kts, I also have a 7.1 but find it a tad heavy to get out of the water now.
You obviously only go wave sailing.
When I was only wave sailing, my biggest was a 5.3, I would have laughed at the thought of using a 7.0

Here where I live (São Paulo, BR), only slalom/freeride/FW, we have poor conditions to wave sailing and when I travel to wave riding normally rent a gear.

With my 7.7 and 8.4, I normally use it from 10-12 (very under power) to 25kts (over power, if a lot of choppy), slalom gear, I'm heavy guy...94kg....if things go good when I arrive, maybe add some sail to the quiver.

If I can go to the water few times, it will already be good.

Have a windsurf club or sailing club in Perth? How I not will have a car, would help, to leave my sails and boards, so I'll not have any trouble to carry.

Mate you'll get plenty of water time with that kit.

I'm a bit heavier than you and my most used sail in a typical Perth summer would be either my 8.4 or 7.6.

You might want a smaller board, around 100L, for sailing on the ocean. There is good free sailing / slalom along the coast but it gets choppy.

On the river your 122/8.4 will be a great set-up for a typical 15-20K sea breeze, I use my 135 Patrik + 8.4 TR8 set up on the river a lot.

Not much in the way of storage options, you'll probably end up buying a car. Public transport in Perth is OK for getting in and out of the CBD, but otherwise it's rubbish.

Alternatively rent some digs in Nedlands or Applecross and you'll be close to the river sailing spots. You can always get a trailer and a push bike for transporting your kit.

There will be wind, don't expect solid conditions day after day because that period is just not the best period of the year for windsurfing.

How much luggage you are going to bring? If I were you I would shop for a few things here to avoid bringing a pile of gear you run the risk of not using.

Will you have a car from the moment you arrive? How you are going to transport and the stuff when you get here?

Think about this also.

Oi Lucas! Tudo bem? you will find that you will need a car, Perth coastline is big (over 100 km) and public transport is not that good.
I know Sao Paulo is a hell of a lot bigger, went there a few times in my way to Curitiba (city where my wife used to live).
You can buy a cheap car and best place to find one is to stay at a back packer for a few days and look at the adds there, another way is to buy the Quokka a free to advertise classified weekly publication. it will be a well spent small ($2000-00) amount of money.
There is a lot of Brazilians living in Perth, check that site http://brazilwa.com/ you could make some good contacts and find short term accommodation as well.

July to September is not windy except in stormy weather...summer is best...Oct/November hopefully seabreezes kick in :)

so from the top 5, I only see Wellington with normal livable conditions. Punta Arenas, Rio Gallegos? Wow water at 4C most of the year I guess will feel warm considering the stone cold wind blowing from the South Pole.

Dodge City if they have a lake around might work too.

Ocean Reef in the northern suburbs of Perth gets seabreezes much more frequent than other parts of Perth.

Stronger too.

The winter time in Perth can be close to a wind free zone for long periods.

When its windy its frontal,very on and off. Wind can last for a few days till the next front arrives usually from the NW direction.

River sailing in the winter is the preferred option for many.

Afraid not. All those cities on that list are capitals of regions too. Dodge city might be stretching it a bit. Unless WA has seceded from Australia and no one has told me.
