I'm flying over to Perth in October and heading straight to gnaraloo.

Has anyone flown with skippers to canarvon with windsurf gear? Was it ok?

What's the best van hire place in Perth (if I don't fly up) or canarvon?

One last question. Do you walk your kit from the accomodation huts to the beach or drive it?

it is a good drive from the camp to the sailing spot, that's why campers suck.
Get a ****eload of camping gear and a car - way better than campervans or rooftop tent kinda deals.

Sorry dunno about the flying thing....... but it is only a day drive from perth, camp for a night halfway makes it cruisey

Fly Yuppy Fly! Ive always wondered how easy would it be to fly to Carnarvon then hire a car. So im keen for you to do it then give feedback on prices, what fits in a plane and generally how easy or hard was it to do. C'mon Do it! Do it, do it do it.

i made 2 bad mistakes one particular gnaraloo trip. First was flying the missus up for a week which was great for first night but as the wind and flies and beautiful ablution blocks kicked in the first night was quickly forgotten. Second and even bigger mistake was paying for the flight to carnarvon!!!! If you had a stack of gear as well I'm guessing you could do a week in bali for the price of the air fare!!!!

Hi Yuppy,
I'm a little concerned when you say Accommodation Huts and walk to the Beach.

The main sailing spot 'Tombstones'is accessed via a 12 foot limestone cliff onto a strip of sand next to a reef.
It is called 'Tombstones' because some sections of the cliff have broken away forming what looks like 'Tombstones' from the water.

The closest accom to Tombies is 3 mile camp, this 'campsite' is a dump (with fantastic water views) and the site of many relationship break downs.

The 'Huts' are at the Homestead and it's a 15min drive to Tombies from there.

On the water it is a magical place, on the land, more feral Mad Max

Go for it mate, just be prepared.

The only reason to fly would be if you are limited for time but have someone driving up that can take provisions. I am not saying it can't be done but there is a limit to how much gear they let you take on the flight. Skippers for example gives you 23kgs of luggage which includes your cabin bag. Additional weight is charged at $5 per kilo but I'd say that doesn't mean you can rock up at the airport with 100 kgs. They might split it onto multiple flights.Budget should have four wheel drives... not sure about camper vans. Can't remember if they have a kmart or target up there but you can buy provisions at the supermarkets.

It's definitely do-able but unless you get a cheap flight it would be pricey. You would probably save about 2 days if you are driving.

October is notoriously know for heaps of sharks, no wind and no swell.

On top - the track is often flooded making it practically impossible to get in (or out).

Did I mention the snakes...

Not sure how you would consider going to Gnaraloo, when I've invited you to come down and stay at mine. Fully furnished room, clean shower, TV, fully cooked meals, no flies etc etc etc. Wait... I get it now... it's me isn't it?

Gnaraloo could be described as a religious experience.

You may get a heavy feeling of dread ...that something bad is going to happen.

Don't worry, you'll only feel sensations of peace, love and hope.
