Hi all,

Sarted windsurfing a few of months ago now and have only been sailing on the Swan river so far.

I've managed to get this coming Mon&Tuesday off work, so am thinking of doing a bit of a road trip and possibly bringing the windsurfer along :)

Any places that you would recommend?
After something good for a beginner, protected from waves etc, and preferably not too deep (can't water start yet).

Was thinking maybe Rockingham/shoalwater or Geraldton, but haven't been sailing at either place.

If the is any south in the wind safety bay is ideal for beginners

I agree with Big Tom, Coodunup/Nairns on the Mandurah estuary has a huge amount of shallow water, but forecast wind for Monday is Northerly, this is off shore at coodunup so not ideal. However Tuesday is meant to be between W and SW which is a good direction there.

Dunsborough has heaps of shallow clear water. Its where I got hooked.

Dunno will be crankin on Monday, keep an eye on the forecast.

My recommendation would be Australind.
Shallow water for a long way out but not too shallow for fins at this time of year. Good in Northerlies, westerlies and SW, which is what we look like getting from Sunday to Tuesday. There are a few regulars down there who get out whenever there is wind. Chop will be minimal, because it is shallow, although strong wind is expected on Monday and that will always cause some chop. Monday may be too strong for you but if you are in shallow water it will be safe to give it a go.
Launch from the boat ramp in town if you want changing facilities, or further north along the estuary for shallower flatter water. Look for the locals and go where they are.

Good thought Anita, I agree, probably the best bet. Not too far from the Margret River/Yalingup district for a bit of winery touring either.
