What was the backy forward thing by Fernandez at around 445?? Sick enough by it self then he does it one hand and one foot??? There's something wrong with these kids?!?!

Apparently they had winds of about 55knots and got readings of up to 62 knots.

You should see what shludgher can do in 62kts!!!! Blow you mind...... Doesn't happen much here but if it did........

fernandez's one footed one handed stalled at 4:55 forward it bloody insane!

i've learnt nothing, my puny human brain can't comprehend how the **** they do half the **** in that video.

the most crushing realisation is that koster is only 18...

I don't think that was supposed to be a stalled one handed/footed forward...

I could be wrong but I reckon Victor has just gone for a one handed/footed backloop and gotten overpowered and pulled over the front?? How the hell he hung onto it though!!

I think being hooked in with the front hand off in 60kts aid the "hanging on". He tries to get his hand back on but misses. Full credit for keeping his cool though. Could've ended up as bad as it gets I recon.
I'm sure a few of the boys watching would have gone " backy foward.........hmmmmmm". I bet Koster or boujma with have them dialled by tenariff.

That's exactly what I thought. I bet someone is already trying to figure out how to do it. I put my money on Koester. He seems to have a good combo of physical fitness, skill, board control and lack of fear. He reminds me a bit of seeing Laid Hamilton in the late 80s. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes into big wave riding at some stage. It's not like those 60 knt conditions seem to really give him much of an adrenaline kick.

I also put my money on Koester being the first to land a triple forward.

Overall though seeing the skill level across the field is pretty impressive.

I don understand why he doesn't do triples yet? He seems to have complete control over his double, doing them planing ect. You are going to hit the water hard though when your learning them

He actually has special padding in his wetsuit to absorb some of the impact when he hits the water. As for triples, he does make the occassional attempt as do campello and boujmaa - Boujmaa knocked himself out cold at Hookipa attempting a triple. Fernandez may be attempting them I'm not sure. As for that 1/2 back into front loop with only one hand and foot thing, I think Boujmaa could try to attempt one, after all, he is insane and attempting all sorts of crazy tricks.

all the proper pro's going nuts, not hacks like me. good spectacle and scary **** when tweaked pushies and doubles gettting thrown left right and centre. No carnage yet but it cant be far away.

I got a wildcard into the event so expect to see some sh!t scared aussie catapaulting all over the place.

Dead easy mate. I used to go down to Marseille all the time and used my 3.4 easily in winds up to about 70 knts. . Of course the biggest problem is getting your gear to the water.

Just make sure you stay hooked in when you jump. That way you can't loose your gear if you stack it. Oh and don't forget to take off a hand or foot before you do any rotations. Looks better that way.

Can't believe how casually they do doubles now...ridiculous. Only a few years ago the second rotation was almost always a semi flop into the water you can now see them visibly slowing down the second rotation so as not to over-rotate. Not to mention they bust them off shorey's now..wtf.

Pretty impressive but are they "forward" doubles. Or would they be more accurately described as a double helicopter in the style of a sycamore seed?

OK check out the move at 1:14 and tell me you don't think they've borrowed the aerodynamics of the sycamore seed. Allow for the fact that the apparent wind is not as vertical as it is for the sycamore seed falling in zero wind.

I assume the type of forward you are referring to is jumped "end over end". While it's possible to do a double that way there are some issues. They are difficult to land planing even as a single rotation. It's even more difficult when it's super windy. Mostly though prober end over end orations are pretty difficult to control.

It made me crack up because the yanks pronounce it FOWARD - cue Sean Ordonez in whatever his instruction video was called

I agree with KA222, it looks like he was intending a backwards (he barely rotated backwards) but the big wind got hold of his board because he had the front foot out, and pulled him forward. Being one-handed and hooked in he couldn't do anything about the sail for a while and wisely chose to keep his back foot in rather than attempt to bail out, so sticking with the forward he came around for a safe landing. I'm glad I didn't have to make that split-second decision - I wonder what his chances of unhooking and getting clear of the gear would be if he had pulled out the back foot.

And I wonder why, for something different, they never go part way into a backwards before doing a big forward - you can always tell far in advance when they're intending a big forward because they straighten up and bearaway. I'd like to see how they'd try to land if they chickened out just before powering forward because there's a surprisingly early point of no return doing that, even the simplest tail first landing might be impossible. As for a nose first landing (why have they gone out of fashion?, a big nose dive is one of the funnest things) you don't do them bearing off the wind.
