recently got a 430 X6 Neil Pryde rdm... is good? Man that mast is awesome! I rate it as highly as the XCombats which are pretty indestructible (as WindWarrior can confirm... all I can say is Gnaraloo). The nice thing about the X6 rdm? It's a fraction of the price you would be paying for an X9 or XCombat.

Is the powerex any good? Wouldn't know... I don't think my local shop even sells them.

And why would you ask this after you bought the thing? most people do their research before they buy, not after.

powerex skinnys are a good allround mast that work in most sails

probably the most popular masts here in WA.

Iam new to wave sailing and have a powerex rrd 430. I've been trashed alot paying me dues out there and that mast has not let me down.

I think they're good, never broke one in 5 years, but I recently tried a Severne redline skinny, I never believed there was much difference in masts - my sails feel so much better, especially for wave sailing, crisp and so responsive - who wants to buy my powerex??

got over 4 years of pole vaulting from my one and only mast which is powerex skinny 430 85% though i think it'll probably be on it's last legs. It's always been a sloppy fit at the join, and now it's like a kingscross hooker

Gazman have you checked the date of that post? 2005 bit old to be useful don't you think? Kinda like saying, don't buy a holden because in 1975 one of them had an issue with something.

I have used powerex 400's and 430's and they are a good mast, they also make masts for a few big names sail companies so i will take there word for it..

Yes I did check the date and yes I do think it's useful if little has been done about the problem of sloppy mast join! (big difference between a problem with a mast identified 4 years ago compared to a problem with a Holden identified 34 years ago). Hopefully Powerex have improved their act re mast join for the sake of anyone who plans to buy one (or has just purchased one!).

Yer i have one, the joint is fine, actually could be a little looser as it tends to get stuck..

My powerex 400 rdm is a bit loose and does tend to separate if I'm not careful when rigging. Tape solves that problem though.

Still definitely glad I bought it. Quality bit of kit (bet I break it on thurs after that comment)

I've got a 2008 Powerex 85% RDM, don't have any play in the join at all.

I've had a few Powerex skinnys, never experienced a sloppy joint or any manufacturing probs. Anyone want to buy my spare one!?

i've had 3 powerex's skins, only snapped one in 5 yrs ..Overall , more than happy with them. last one bought in 2007

they all had sloppyish joins, .... i can't remember if they were snug when i bought them and this has happened from wear and tear;;; or if they were loose from the start.

What i can tell you; is the machine that finishes off the end has always been off. They have a small gap on the join, when both ends are pushed together, because the ends are not cut off straight

it doesn't really matter because once the downhaul is on, the mast halves are going nowhere.

BUT

I've got to be careful when rigging, double check the that the masts haven't slipped after downhaul applied,,, can be a pain in the arse when your keen to get out and u got to de-rig, or if u forget and sail with a big gap in the join,, hello snappage.

MAte always tapes the joins with duct tape.

Have the "slip apart" problem myself from time to time - always feel for a gap after first down haul.

Got 400 430 Powerx 100% and they work a treat with Gaastra Poison 4.2, 4.7 5.4 and Severne 6.4 S2.

Certainly recommend them - just harder to come by now around here.

I have a Powerex 400 skinny I bought in 2003. It's still going strong and does not have a loose fit. Solid masts. Safety bay, you bought the right mast.
