I really wish they would put together an events page that pulls all their feeds into a single point before and during the event not weeks after... And while they are at it fix the information architecture / UX of the remainder of the site.

Agree.

I think tho the Facebook page is intended to be the event hub. Certainly seems to be the place with all the latest details and images.

Do you know if Koster is competing or injured?
The photos are great. Got a unique vibe going on and the reference to local art works well

Haha! Well there is that. It does seem iwt events are run for the competitors rather than a wider audience. I don't have a problem with that but it would be nice to get an idea of who is signed up to compete!

Nope ... he's had an operation on his foot a couple of weeks ago... lisfranc ligament damage. I'd be surprised to seem him back on the water before November. Kelly Slater had a similar and was off the water for about 4 months... although it was quite a bit worse.

List of competitors is here. No breakdown of what class they are competing in, country or sponsors: internationalwindsurfingtour.com/2023-pacasmayo-classic-opens/

About 50 people registered which is a great turnout.

There are some random video clips of the competitors on Instagram, nothing on YouTube... haven't checked Facebook.

Go into liveheats.com and you can see all the heat draws and live scores. Search for IWT PWA wave tour or peru pacasmayo.

I really enjoyed watching the quality livestream last night. The pictures are good, including some drone footage, and Simeon was good on the commentary, with some help from Bernd Roediger when Bernd wasn't on the water himself.

The livestream picture went off a bit later in the day but only because they were having to shoot into the sun, with the inevitable glare.

As usual with the IWT, they do forget to tell people what is happening or when they are likely to go live, and it was only by stumbling across some information that I worked out they might be live last night.
The livestream is on the IWT youtube channel but if you access it first via the IWT's own website, you also get the live scoring, and with extra detail of individual wave scores.
Other notifications or video reports are on Facebook or on Instagram, but those posts tend to pop up randomly. There are some great photos on the IWT facebook page.
It's a bit weird they don't use facebook to announce when they are going live.

The pro heats usually go live in the afternoon, and so you need to know your time difference, depending on where in the world you are watching from. Peru time is GMT -5

For us in the UK, still on BST, we are 6 hours ahead, so 2pm heats in Peru are broadcast at 8pm, making for great evening viewing for us.
I write this at 3pm UK time, and in Peru it's now 9am.

I think the hope is to run round 2 today for the pros, but the wind is again expected to be light. The wave period today also shortens to 16 seconds, compared to the 19second wave period yesterday.
The competition format isn't for a full double elimination, but this round 2 is a comeback round for those knocked out in the early heats. The heat winners today go through to the quarter finals - to join those sailors who already qualified yesterday.

There are some big swell surges expected for the competition window, and I think Saturday's swell is forecast to be big.

It's just coming up to 2pm now, Peru time. (And 8pm here in the UK)
Anyone getting any updates anywhere?

I'm guessing they are waiting for better wind, but the forecast gives 2pm as the start of the winder period for today. They then have a window of maybe three hours before the wind starts to ease off again.

They eventually got going, in light wind and with small waves.
The first women's heat had just finished, with heat two of the women's round about to start.

Looks like the wind has dropped too light for the heats to continue (on Wednesday).
That's a shame because the waves looked pretty good.

The wave and wind angle there is so perfect that it's easy to still get amazing rides in sub 10 knots. The only downside is the slog back out to the point after a good ride is about 20 to 25 minutes so hard to get in more than 1 or 2 rides in a 30 minute heat.

Thursday:
Looks like it's off for today - with the light wind forecast - but they may also be waiting to see what fills in.
It's weird again, that they make no announcement at all.

I'm guessing, purely from the forecast on Windguru, that the competition may run again on Friday.
Waves are forecast for the competition window period, but the wind forecast is not great for any one day.

Bernd is looking pretty good. Some of the top turns on his heat waves looked like what you'd see on the wsl.

It is difficult to connect when you can't see the riders on the wave.

It's pumping tho and there are some great rides happening. Men's final was quality.

From what I've watched, there seems little variation on the rides. Its just bottom turn then top turn, repeat several times. There has been some the lip air, but not many. Same for wave 360/gu-screw etc. Thats just the nature of the wave though, they cant do much with it.

I watched a lot of the heats yesterday (Friday) and the build up to the final was amazing, with quite a bit of drama.
Then the final itself was one of the best I've seen for years.
It's all on youtube to watch again, if you missed it.
The early heats were maybe a bit slow, because of the lack of wind.

The camera work was limited by the number of cameras, and because the land-based cameras were shooting into the sun. But the drone footage was amazing, and the stills photography (with photos already being added on Facebook) really shows how big those wave actually were.

The women's event continues later today, and with even bigger waves expected.

Would be tough financially to run an event for just 35 athletes
Must be a shoestring budget and a passionate team running the event

interesting to look through the leaderboard points on the iwt website.

the 4 star events seem to be great value for the riders who may not have gotten the results they were chasing in the 5 star events.
