What happened? Good sailor back in the day

I take it this is the Andrew Hauserman or Hausey as he is known. I was only talking to him on text the other day about some gear he was selling this is terribly sad. He was as far as I know a really good guy. He was by all accounts a very competent sailor of World Cup standards and contemporary of Scott McKercher, Guy Cribb and others and onetime personal friend of Mark Paul. On his Windtech 9'0" course slalom (for sale on this website) he competed in the PBA World Cup in Noumea in 1995 - designed for flattish water and across the wind slalom more than downwind. I think he came in the top 20 and he said he remembers beating lots of Aussies including Bruce Wylie and Phil McGain which he said was good for him. I believe he also achieved 5th in the Ledge to Lancelin on a Windtech 8'10" Slalom (behind Bringdal, Rappe, Engdall and McKercher). A good bloke passes. Sad indeed.

hadnt checked his posts on the best in ws history thread....... active and interested to the last.....Fred said Hausey had a wrist injury a while back and was only able to kite.......but looking at those posts, he still held windsurfing dear to his dare i say it "heart"
you might say he was woven into the tapestry of windsurfing history.........i remember he had a needle nosed board in the 90's with the fabric of the chaos theory print in the glass job...... I think John Gillis made 3 ......Richard and Lloyd Ellis had the other 2....... We had a session at 3rd headland and he ripped on that board.

this is really sad news! Hausey was one of the most gentle , happy guys you could ever meet and a seriously good wave sailor. Used to role up at margies out of the blue and sail the joint as if he had never left. RIP and thanks for all the laughs and smiles.

Andrew Hauserman (Hausey), my good friend and a good mate to many of you on Seabreeze died in the surf at Byron Bay on Tuesday. Information and media reports are still sketchy, This was what was reported in the media: A man has died on Byron Bay's Main Beach after going into cardiac arrest following a routine morning swim from The Pass. www.northernstar.com.au/news/westpac-chopper-rush-beach-rescue/3063823/

Andrew was a passionate and very knowledgeable surf kiter. He was a windsurfer since its inception and has a shed load of gear from his extensive adventures in WA, Hawaii and up and down the East cost of Oz. We first met at Uni in 1987. He soon got me hooked in to windsurfing and I suspect profited by off-loading his blown-out sails onto an unsuspecting beginner! We sailed together many times over the years - Long Reef, Balmoral, Diamond Head, Hookipa, Marrawah. His adventures took him much further afield. In more recent times Andrew was recovering from a very nasty wrist injury he received while working fly/flyout on the NW off-shore gas fields in WA.
While the permanent and painful injury prevented him for surfing, he could still Kite. Once again, he lured me to give Kiting a go - hooked again!

So the next time I pump up I’ll be thinking of our dear friend Hausey.

Very sad news. I hadn't seen Hausey for many years but competed and hung out with him quite a bit in the 90s. He was always elevating the level of friendliness, thoughtfulness and gentlemanly participation on and off the water. RIP buddy.

Always loved chewing the fat with Hausey when he visited my shop on the goldy.
A long friendship with a cool waterman that suddenly with a blink of the eye has disappeared......I fear none of us are getting out of here alive.

Andrew was my cousin and I just wanted to say thanks for everyones replies. Although I grew up in Canada and didn't start windsurfing until just a few years ago he was a great influence in me taking up the sport. I remember seeing photos of him ripping it up and always wanted to try it myself. He came to visit me last summer, unfortunately he had a broken hand and was unable to kite, but we talked about meeting up somewhere like San Carlos or Maui to celebrate our 50th birthdays this year.
I had also planned on coming over to Byron with my family to see him next summer but those things will not happen now. It's very sad, we had a lot of things we wanted to do together, I'll miss his great windsurfing stories from back in the day and his long emails with windsurfing advice. I had told him I was starting to go for back loops a while ago and he sent me this great picture of himself going for a backie! He was a true waterman and a gentle kind soul that I will miss and always think of especially when I'm on the water. Thanks again for all your kind words! Keep on charging cousin!!!!!

Really gutted to hear about Hausey.

I spent a lot of time sailing and hanging out with Hausey sailing in the 1980's with trips to WA, Merimbula. Lots of time waiting at Long Reef waiting for the wind to come in.

A lovely guy who will be missed.
