Looks like 10-13 knots, board 20 liters floatier than rider weight.
If he bothered to pump, loosen outhaul and downhaul, he would plane heading out, like he does in the end. Pumping is worth at least 3 mph of wind, and sail tuning another 2 mph.
Nice rides in closeout shorepound, good stuff.

The wind would have lucky to peak at 15knots in the gusts, Sail was a 5.3 and board 89.

Nice clean offshores Jason. How did you film the footage? With a drone, presumably?

Does not look like much downhaul to me and there is draft in the sail.?
We are not talking 1980,s RAF wave sails here.

I was struggling to catch waves like this one day last year. I went in an loosened my down haul and out haul. That was the day I finally nailed my double forwards.

You forget, going DTL doesn't create the power that going backside creates, when you get on a wave face. DTL, you're running FROM the wind, so more power can be tolerated and you actually want lots of power to cutback off the top, or the bottom turn speed exceeds the windspeed.
If the sailor is riding backside, then a more correctly tuned sail is needed.
I reiterate....cool vid, good sailor, nice waves even if they closeout, and really nice beach.

Actually your user name is identical to another "LeeD" that was on the Starboard forums quite a few years ago now. That LeeD was telling Ty Bodycoat (the PWA rookie of the year at the time) that he (as in Ty) had no idea how to sail waves properly at Margies, even though Ty frequently ripped the place to pieces while that LeeD admitted never even visiting WA. All to a backdrop of sailing/surfing stories of that LeeD shredding famous North Shore breaks with a who's who of Hawaiian watermen.

Guessing you're not that LeeD though.

THAT LeeD also claimed that the Hypersonic was a POS junk board that would not be on the market for longer than 3 years, and that nobody else was going to use the same concept. That LeeD claimed that you shouldn't jump a Hypersonic because the landings will hurt the board and rider. Gee, is that possible? THAT LeeD claimed that a rider should not jump his slalom board, and promoting it in ads is irresponsible, because slalom boards are not built to resist the landings, being made to be light and stiff for fast sailing. Other than sponsored pros, or dumb kids, nobody jumps their slalom boards.......for the reason I claimed.
THAT LeeD also claimed it's possible to use a 5.7 sized sail on a Formula board. Gee, they use 4.7 sails on Formula boards now with a foil, and a few sailors around here, who are big guys, use 6.5 sails on Formula boards.
THAT LeeD claimed the Evo was built to be a small or mushy wave board only, based on the outline and widepoint. Well, they kept that widepoint back outline thru 2010, then CHANGED it to a widepoint slightly forward outline, for a longer engaging rail, since then. I wonder why? Maybe not everyone sails in the head high mushy slow waves of Margaret River.

I will admit, I don't care WHO I"m addressing, the evidence is in the video.
I have personally engaged Scott McKerscher at AWIA tradeshows, and we've had the discussion of the Evo concept for general wave sailing. Notice when Scott answered my posts, unlike idiot Ian Fox, he was much mellower and only said...." try it".....you might like it.
Scott knows I can wavesail, knows me personally, and knows plenty of wave sailors that I sail with. He wouldn't be rude like other's of Starboard.
Now if you get on your knees and pray to the deity of Starboard, then you have a point. Nobody can question their god like knowledge and concepts, they are forever perfect, and anyone doubters must be eliminated.
That's why there are SOOOOO many copies of Hypersonics being sailed around the world today, and winning races. Even Jesper mellowed out on the HyperSonic, admitting it's almost not possible to win any slalom race against slalom boards, using that board.
Don't be a blind follower, a worshipper of the player's in the industry. Instead, TRY their concepts, learn for yourself, and question things you know are wrong.

LeeD, your keyboard probably needs replacing after that assault upon it.

I will say, I have the utmost respect for Scott, Jesper, and a ALL the team rider's. Just one dummy in the group, and he was wrong every single time we butted heads.

Was 8-15 knots. Board 5 liters floatier than weight. If I'd bothered to pump, loosen outhaul, I wouldn't have planed heading out. In the end I'm planning because I am coming in on a wave. Pumping is worth at least three waves of wasted energy and sail tuning another two waves missed .
