Last Saturday, I headed out to East Corrimal for a quick session as the wind was building up.
The northern end had a nice peeling left over the rocks.
There was 4 guys out on longboards.

As I took off on my first wave, repecting priority and everything, I started hearing words of abuse, starting with F and C.
It got even worst on the second wave, as one of the mal rider tried to shoot his longboard towards my sail.
Bear in mind, I was not planning, the wind was building up, pretty much taking off on waves like any surfer would do. I wasn't catching all the waves either, being mindfull that I was a windsurfer amongst surfers...

I tried to have a decent conversation with the guy, telling me was I was doing was dangerous, that there was a 60m rules, so I had to be downwind 60m... And that I should get the F#@ck out of here.

So I did, went downwind to a less good wave to try to calm things down and eventually got back there when the 2 longboarders had enough of the windy waves.

I am a surfer, windsurfer, standup paddle boarder, I understand and respect priorities, I share waves with others. I don't understand what all the fuss was about? And what about that 60m rule? I call it bulls...

Have anyone been in that situation before, what are the rules if any?

never heard of a 60 meters rule... the only rule I know is in Hookipa you can't sail if there are more than I think 4 surfers on the break.

Why anyone would bother trying to surf once the wind goes above 10 knts is beyond me though.

I thought Hookipa rule was 10 surfers? Definitely been out there with other windsurfers with more than 5 surfers out. Not an issue at all. Mutual respect.

Well done for being the bigger man and not making an issue or escalating the situation.

Happens a bit around the Gong, not so much at EC but particularly at Peggies as it's a reef break with a small area. I have been told i'll be 'crawing to my car' before at EC though by some fat old clown. It was just he and I in the water, I was there first, didn't even get close to in his way but he followed me around a bit because I was getting lots of good waves. Anyway when he got out I followed a few minutes later and took a load of pics of him with his car. Have seen him a few times since, hasn't said a word.

In the past I would go out of my way to give priority to surfers because we can catch a lot more waves, however it's never payed back my way, they will 99% of the time drop in, there is generally no mutual respect if you're doing the right thing, so I've pretty much given up being nice these days I play it their way, everyone for themselves.

I would add though that there are places that I don't sail like Sandon Point etc because you're likely to get a) beaten up or b) have your car smashed up. Clowns, the lot of them, have zero time for them.

Sounds like a real douchebag. He was probably having a bag day after being bagged out by the short board crew. Surfing is a funny sport- I'm glad I'm out of the scene.

As for rules, I reckon just use to the standard surfing ones- don't drop in, hog all the sets, etc. I chug around our local point break (a typical lazy mal type wave) amid the board riders and sups. No probs or whinging yet, pretty cruisy mob. But don't take **** or move off, no-one owns the water.

Just punch them in the head. They will get the idea. If you won't say it on land don't say it on water

A think Corrimal needs a surf hierarchy sign at the beach, I was sailing the little reef there one day and two goat boaters started abusing me? I thought it was hilarious.

I agree it's totally insane, I live up the road, surf there a lot and see these guys in the water all the time!
Change from surfboard to windsurf and you're done!
They probably got pissed off as well as I was getting really nice rides...
The point is I'd rather let it go and have fun a little down the beach where there is no aggressivity in the water.
Negative vibes kills the session.
Can't wait to go paddle boarding next to them next time and see what happens!

the irony is you pretty much have the entire coast to yourself during the week.

I actually have a wavesailing etiquette question:
If one guy (A) starts from the peak and another guy (B) jibes in the same wave to catch it but stay at least 50m leeward from the first guy (A).
Is it considered like a drop-in even if A has plenty of room to surf?
or is it acceptable to share the same wave on a different section?

I reckon that's fine, as long as it is not the sort of wave where the guy who caught it 1st is going to end up in the drop-in's zone. A good example of that is Tombies and Centers up N from here. Usually the guys that take off on Centers just waste the wave at Tombies (unless they are very good and time it to perfection). Best not to let waves go to waste i reckon...

Yes it is and don't do it, especially at the place Jens mentioned, If a person has sailed all the way up wind to get the full wave and you drop in it is a ****ty move, and if the guy has to slow down so they don't hit you they run the risk of the wave closing out on them and they will probably have to take on the white water or the reef.

Also if someone gets a wave from way out back and you are up wind heading out, don't gybe onto it and think it's yours, it isn't.
