Can some please explain what the difference is between these two JP wave fins. Obviously they are different size and shape but why? They are both wave fins!

Is one for side onshore and the other for offshore? I'm looking for a wave fin for my Tabou Pocket to convert it to a blasting Bump and Jump for when there are no waves.... as an option

My take on it - IMHO

The bottom one is 'conventional' wave fin. We all loved them in single fin wave boards as tip flex unloaded it, a bit kinda like sail twist does. In a heavy nasty wave with a bit of chop a flexy tip was nice. Heavier guys liked them a bit stiffer and maybe even thicker draft - more powerful and less tip flex.
To get slide you needed a small flexy fin - but then every other aspect of sailing was stuffed up. A nice stiff fin enabled a secure pivoting slashy top turn .... but the bottom turn could be scary if it was windy and bumpy.

All changed with multi fins. They will spill power in a bottom turn by losing grip on one or two fins but not cause a major fk up as the other 2 or 3 are still engaged.
They don't need the flex in the tip as they are all working in concert. They will do the control, and the stiff feeling pivoting top turn, and the sliding top tun. Nice.

I love the feeling of the standard MFC fin set that is standard in my RRD and Goya quads - as the stiff vertical little fins enable a top turn that pivots around the fin set and still allows a slide (by virtue of their small size). The first JP fin is similarly stiff (compared to old dolphin shape wave fins)

So for B&J I suggest you need more conventional single fin - like #2......

What size Pocket and standard fin set size?

BTW you may be able to just go up on size on the centre fin, set it right back for tracking, and leave the sidies alone. and thus have it a bit more locked in for B&J

Mark, I have an 80L Pocket - love this board. I have swapped out the original fins for preservation from rocks at Mettams

Original T-Tabs fronts 10cm rear 17cm to K4's - fronts 12cm and 17cm rear. I moved the rear back a little and noticed it had more drive but still easy to turn but noticeably not as whippy but i know that would change if i bought all the fins closer together. Do you think that 1cm bigger on the rear would make a difference and give it even more drive and speed? I was looking at going single fin (23cm) for those blasting days, but if i don't need to i won't.

Don't believe in K4's recycled icecream container fins but if it works for you then feel free.

Yeah next time i'm in Gero i'll hit you up on the offer. The icecream containers work for me....so far. I'm not that radical to notice anything inferior. No more spinout, but that could be readjusting the position on the rear and my harness lines. I do know that they are cheaper to replace. I hit a rock with my fin on my rrd96L on Saturday. hmmm nice wound on it, kinda lost its nice contour A 28cm Freewave MFC aint cheap! So a little bit of filing and sanding will do until i find the coin.

vpar...yeah dunno, i guess i wanted to reflect who i am, which is vince. Wanted to change it when i first joined but didn't know i could. Pretty simple.
