Just a question.. i have been here the last 3 winters (your summers) this one has been the best.
Just wondering has this been a good one? or a normal one?

If there is a drought on the East Coast, ideally combined with an el nino effect, it's almost guaranteed to be a good summer on the West Coast.

If there is a lot of rain on the East Coast due to a la ninia it often will effect the West Coast as well.

The BOM web site usually does a forecast for the summer around September. From memory they are already predicting a higher than normal chance of an el nino event next summer.

Definitely better than the last 2 years.
like stehsegler said pacific el nino patterns create better windsurfing conditions in WA
BOM says the pattern is neutral this year but chances of el nino increasing next year.
I appreciate the struggle the east coast farmers face but at least there is a positive

It gets worse still. In years when there is an el Nino and major bush fires around Sydney the NE seabreeze seems to be super powered. I remember last major el Nino summer back in 2003 or so. The royal national park south of Sydney was burning after months of no rain. I sailed over 14 days straight on a 4.7 maxed out. In a bad Sydney summer the 4.7 never leaves the sail bag.

In South Aus. we have had the best season any of us can remember - by a long way. I have kept a bit of a log and have had about double the hit ratio of a normal year, even taking into account that I have had more time to sail this summer... Spring was the same.

Yes this one has been 'normal' compared to last two which were La Nina years
