Awesome shots. Thanks for sharing the stoke.

What I want to know is does the guy in shot 4 make the top turn (looks like the start of a sail backwinding along the leech, and a lip about to start it's pitch downwards) - regardless, the dude rips in this and the other shots

Shot 5 looks like a new Simmer FSW - which by the look turns very well in serious conditions

Well, how embarressing! Well we agree he rips

I was there in spring 2006, mast high 3 days straight, and Scott was sailing with his video camera on his right hand, catching bomb waves and looking back over his right shoulder and filming others in the pocket. Pretty cool. Massive backloops as Scott does - he broke a mast, massively long swim in, drag the gear to the carpark, grab another mast and lets go again........Scotts ability and sheer athleticism amazed me.

Simmer FSW 95 went off in solid Tombies. Go to Windsurfing - Gear Reviews - Simmer board 2012 programme for full review.
Reviews for Simmer Quantum 85 and Flywave 75 to follow shortly.

Wouldn't it be cool if a poley could swing into a hell carving, roundhouse cutty right here ...^^^
Right there ...^^^
and curve around on that frothing foamball and then straighten-up to shoot down the line.
Just mindsurfing ...that's all.
Carry on.
lol.

As opposed be being dragged down the line whilst trying to top turn?

You might well choose to do that, but in this particular wave you'd lose the rest of the ride. Tombies is a very fast wave, particularly when it carries some size, so if you muck around too long at the wrong spot, it's a quick trip to the inside...

I'm guessing that Corey is setting himself up here to charge hard down the line, and stay in the critical zone, rather than have it overtake him and lose the wave.

It's fun playing the guessing game, hey? ^^^
Let's continue, shall we.
Looking at the photo, I'm thinking CJ is setting up for the big air.
He's not too concerned about the wave sectioning, or closing down on him.
He's got ample speed to outrun the beast, he's trimming high, he has petrol in the tank.
He's scoping the top of the wall for a nice little kicker, a handy step to lip-launch himself.
But I'm checking out that critical zone that you speak of.
The power-pocket that's 8 metres back up-the-line.
A roundhouse cutback would wash-off a lot of that excessive boardspeed and careen him back into the pit-zone.
But there I go .... mindsurfing again, I can't escape it.
lol.

slaye to the wave ........your point is ??? i was there doen it dood and you ? Dreaming about your cut back ......i got some news for you

poor old Kite bags were not even making it, or even drawing the right lines through the double bubbles ,

in fact were struggeling to even stay on the swellsssss..oh (toe side) as for cut backs non existent havent seen a kiter do one yet pleanty of drag downs

Oh the point is ?
If you were there things may have been different .....May be its only you who can get enough speed on a 5 foot twin tip to make it

And kelly slater

PS this really is not a kite friendly wave for you slave unfortunately even at 3 foot
Dont worry slave the The dragon swished its tail and sorted it ALL out nothing more needs to be said.

Love you passion to dream slave dont ever stop

^^^ many of us have been in a similar position to that last pic - but it was not intentional like this flash move ...... and it hurt a lot

Considering the 4ft deep water with razor reef on the bottom and if you get washed up there is no beach just a cliff climb - that is really impressive

big balls.

Yep nice shots OP and TH and respect to the guys in them.

WS yes it is possible to do a cutback kiting (in the right conditions) but that sure is some heavy mindsurfing you are doing if you are picturing a kiter doing a cutback on that wave.
