i have a JP Magic wave 105 and they come with mini Tuttle boxes for the side fins. I have a couple of fcs fins from my surfboards that are about the same size than my stock 10 side fins and I found these adapters that let me use FCS fins on my MT boxes and was curious about how a surf fins would perform in a FreeWave board for B&J. anyone tried this before? is it worth getting the adapter?

I use surfboard fins in my boards. you really got to just try it and see what you think.

there is no straight answer because there are so many different foils and fins. most surfboard fins are designed for toe in and slower speeds. ie. not for windsurfing.

my short answer is surfboard fins are too draggy for bump and jump. Except if your bump and jump board has toed in boxes as that's slower anyways or if you are using your board at the top end of it's wind limit. in that case i find surfboard fins take enough top end off the board speed to add another 5-10 knots of usable wind limit or allow you to use the board in rougher sea states. in those cases it's only when you exit gybes you'll wish you had a bit more speed.

the foils i've had most success with are either 50/50 foils or inside foils so that's what i use. flat foil i just don;t bother with anymore. i also prefer fiberglass fins so that adds another complication. i've got a bunch of hand made custom fins and fiberglass surf fins i've spent a long time trying to find. i guess the point is, flat foil fins must have toe in to work as designed and unless your boards have toed boxes they will feel draggy in my experience.

if i were starting with mini tuttle and not surfboxes i'd spend the money on better tuttle base fins instead with foils more orientated towards windsurfing.

being on a jp maybe look at tectonics fins

My experiences with FCS fins on windsurfers is they will break off at the tabs. Maybe due to extra speed, transition loads, bla bla bla. Work well at slower speeds under 15knts of wind but when dialling it up, snap...fin gone.

I have an older JP rad quad, it loves Black Project fins and particularly the 15 1/2 + 10 combo. The stock rears were crap, thrusters so so.

Hey Cris, if you are are trying to save some coin and want the turning performance of a surf board fin take a look at getting some K4' s as per the fin sizes Brent has provided as they offer toe in options on their side fins. You can go all K4 or setup Thruster or Quad or run Tectonic or Black Project for you centre fins.
