So much better angle using the drone than any mounted go pro footage.

Fantastic video - great flying, camera work and editing.

Agree with above - this is excellent promotion for WA and also windsurfing - it's nice to see a professional standard video that shows conditions that are accessible for the recreational sailor - more like this and we may see more people taking up the sport.

Agree with Simonzee, I think this video gives a real point of view perspective due to the drone flying so low with the sailor. How cool is this sport !!!!

Thanks... No HUD... just an iPad ... 20 years of working in media ... and hundreds of hours playing first person shooters Camera moves aren't great yet but I am getting there. Biggest problem is the sensitivity of the controller sticks plus I woulnd't mind having motors with a bit more power.

The big problem with using a drone to video windsurfing is that windsurfing needs wind and drones don't like wind. But, you nailed it.

Amazing effort, hard enough with FPV goggles on. Thought it would have to be a Phantom 4, great effort.

not a big problem to about 30 knt gusts. just like a full size helicopter the biggest issue with wind is during take off and landing.

As someone who has never flown a drone, used a go pro, or edited any video, I am curious, how long would all this take you to do to make this video ?

Its a great edit.

I was sailing alone that day up the coast. Whilst it was a pretty sweet day, it would of been nicer sharing with a few friends.

Footage was shot over about 60 minutes... with some rough idea what shots I want. Edit took about 3 hours. Process in a nutshell is: trim individual clips, drop clips into a time line, adjust length and location of clips to roughly fit to the music in the audio track, ad transisions and other effects, color grading, export, upload.

I probably would take a bit longer for a commercial shoot with more time spend on color grading, fine tuning cuts and adding effects.

Nice footage stehsegler!
Was wondering who was flying that drone.
You managed to make it look like a proper wave spot

^^^ funny you mentioned that, I was going to comment on the standard of sailing. Dutchies is bloody hard to sail, bottomturn and the wave is gone
There was ripper sailing in that vid.

And stehsegler, you talking about the camera moves and piloting (?) being a bit rough -umm, no. Brilliant!
But you mentioned sensitivity, do these not have adjustable expo around centre on the sticks though?

You can tweak exp, gain and sensitivity in software. Seems to be no way of saving them as presets though.

You can't adjust the mechanical feel of the sticks. Apparently it's possible to do minor adjustments by opening the controller and tightening some screws. I sometimes find yaw creeping in while throttling up or down.

I do wish though DJI would implement a "minimum altitude" setting. I talked to them about it and apparently quite a number of people have asked for it but there are currently no plans to implement anything. The idea is to prevent you from accidentally slamming into the ground or water while flying very low.
