Back in 2007 I shaped an awesome twin fin (before twins were trendy) and later conveted it to a quad and it went even better. I still take this board out but now days its a bit low in volume for me.So my plan is to remakes this board with a few tweaks, squash tail instead of pin, 14cm shorter nose, add another 10 to 15 litres of volume, spread the rear fins a bit wider apart.bottom rocker and shape to stay the same, a big single concave into a shallow vee in the tail. Well thats the plan but usually get carried away and make a few last minute artistic tweaks when shaping (a bit like those stupid contestants on those cooking shows who get creative and deviate from there known recipe)It going to take me a while to do, between work, looking after a couple of kids under 4, usual domestic chores and windsurfing. Anyone know of trim box suppliers besides Flikka. I dont want to make my own.

It's in the vacuum bag right now, I've wet out 1 layer of 4 oz glass a wide strip of carbon with 200 ml of resin also glueing in the fin blocks and some 5 mm corecell is being sucked on to the wet glass.

No an axe im not that high tech

Is that the standard size of the bubbles in all polystyrene cores. They look huge. I wouldn't imagine hard to get a smooth finish.

Yes NR bubbles are normally that big, but fine mesh sandpaper smooths out the foam. As the inserts are not identical labeling them and the board saves time when assembling, same as with rough cut outline no point in taking time making it all neat and pretty just to be reshaped again later after the bottom corecell has been stuck on.

But I think the thruster could be making a come back? Think about it. Surfers still surf with thrusters on surfboards

single outdated? you need to check more aerial photos of pros ;)

It's about the right tool for the wave and sailor. No such thing as one, two, three or four fins, fits all.

What length, width- nose/mid/tail, thickness are you going for - any idea of what the volume should be when finished?

Good points are being made here, you could still add a center box easily if you haven't glassed the bottom yet.
Many customs in my country are coming out with 5 boxes, I think it's a good thing.

The finished board will be 224cm nose 44cm mid 60cm tail 35cm thickness 12.5cm roughly 90 to 95 litres.

As stated in the first post im replicating a board I love, I'm making it lighter and a few minor tweaks. I've shaped a lot and I mean a lot! of windsurfing boards over the last 30 years I've done a lot of fin angle testing, if I put a centre fin in to run it as a thruster then the front fin box angles would need to be changed and then it would not perform well if I swapped fins and ran it as a quad.The front fin tow in angle for thrusters is different to the front fin angle for quads. I dont want mediocre performance I want perfection!

These two flat cuts on each side are to set rail thickness and the deck roll/curve.

Deck roll shaped into board and some of the tools used, different shaped foam blocks with sandpaper glued on, my screaming cat MEEEOOOOW, Surform, more sanding blocks, Sanding mesh used with foam sponge.

Thanks, work and family life are keeping things a bit slow. I'd like to take more pics but im usually focused on the task at hand and I also don't want to get dust or resin on my camera.
