Can anyone from Severne tell me is the Gorilla mast a constant curve? or stiff top?
Is it much different from the older Powerex or the Ezzy Hookipa masts?

Not from Severne, but I got the 400 '10 Powerex rdm and 400 '12 Gorilla. I believe they are both pretty much constant curve. In comparing them I have rigged a '12 Severne S-1 5.6m on both, the powerex is a touch softer in the top and causes the sail to twist of a little too early relative to the gorilla. Pretty usable, however I think with the powerex you would have to do a bit of downhaul tuning (5-10mm) to cover the same wind range, with the gorilla I don't mess with the downhaul once its right.

Would be the same bend as the rest of the masts, so that would be hard top overall..

I don't think I need to point this out but I will anyway, it's not that the bottom of the 'hard top' mast is softer than the top, it's only relatively stiffer up top compared to a constant curve..

I've replaced my powerex with a gorilla and my S-1 feels great obviously, but this is a only with a 5.6 on Gorilla 400/32 where as I had been rigging in on a 400/430 powerex combo, and that was about 4 months ago..


New warranty means I can get rid of the bloody powerex, what's it worth in beers?

Barn is that a typo "400/32 " ?
So did you use the 430 as the top bit as it would have been a bit stiffer?

Sorry that was confusing, I realised that when I hit 'post'..

400/32 = 400 with 32 extension. (Recommended setting.)

400/430 = 400 bottom with 430 top, mystery extension (Cowboy setting.)

I only used the 430 top as I didn't have an extension long enough to run 32cm on a 400.. But your right this might work out to be a crude stiff top..

How did you go Barn?

Been thinking that If you had the longer stiffer top then the bottom section would have more curve and bend more as it's softer.
It gets a bit confusing Ezzy recommends using the longer top section and Goya recommends using the longer bottom section and hot sails recommends using a longer bottom section.
