What is the latest with the RDM vs SDM pros and cons?
Is pretty much everyone using RDM for wave-sailing?
Does every pro use RDM in their wave sails?
I would like to buy a new 400 mast but it will only work with a few sails 4.7 and 5.3, but at least with the SDM, I could buy an extender and then use the same mast for a 6.2.
I'm generalising, but most or all wave sails now are designed to rig on RDM, they 'accept' a SDM fine, although are theoretically more efficient on a RDM.
I didn't convert to a RDM that long ago, I was surprised how responsive the (wave) sail was. Some sailors - mostly the heavier guys I've noticed - like the stiffer feeling of a SDM. Visually sails can appear to rig better on a SDM.
I think larger and cammed sails may be more suited to a SDM, that's a bit of personal preference I guess.
It depends on your quiver and type of sailing. I have a 400 mast which rigs on 5.4/5.1/4.7 & will rig on a older model 4.5 but most newer wave sails from about 4.7 down will use a 370 which is 'softer'.
Check the mast compatability chart as a guide, but usually best to have same brand sail & mast.
