Nothing special, he's just cranking off the lip, which is throwing out...pretty hollow. Angle of photographer, way high, makes him look radical, but in fact, he's not nearly sideways-horizontal. Plenty of pics od surfers much more radical cutting back on the lip of a hollow wave. Surfers don't usually get this angle and make it, but the sail allows recovery, although he probably did not make the section.

Wow you are so awesome thanks for the nothing special comments
LeeD said.. Too bad you never saw vids of Rolf Arness surfing backside at Bells circa '70. Your newbie ignorance shows clearly.
Post a pic of your awesome off the lip and I will let your ****eful arrogance pass, been on this site longer than u but only choose to comment when I see someone post so much crap I can't let it go!!
That old 1970 video of Rolf backside blew everyone's mind back then. He was "totally upside down", cutting back off the top at Bells. Until you realize the high location of the camera, off the cliff.
Yes, it was a nice rad pic....but something any good surfsailor has to do when caught high facing a section. Maybe I would have tried to straighten out, but his weight was toeside when the section came up.
Im pretty sure you could get a job coaching Brawzinho at Jaws Lee d .... , and coach Kelly at Pipe .... all that knowledge gained from chop at candlestick point over the years .... fckn hardcore !
btw - you should check your bi-focals Lee'd , pretty sure the sail mast is horizontal , and Kosters feet are above his head , and the tail 2ft above his head .... how would the camera angle change that so dramatically from beach leve / water level l ? .... it would actually make it look more criticalfrom a watershot , showing the size of wave from kosters bottom turn eyes .... .what r u on ?
Good stuff..... I actually sailed Candlestick twice in 39 years of shortboarding. Once in 1984, then again in the mid '90's. In comparison, I've sailed Backyards around 70 days. As for the cliff where the pics are taken, I don't k ow how high they are. Bells Beach cliff might be 75 feet, but never having been there, I don't know actual footage. Perhaps someone from Oz can enlighten us. For you newbies, camera angle makes HUGE differences in perspective.
As has been suggested before Leed, post a shot of yourself which is "nothing special" and some of us MIGHT take you semi seriously. It's just hilarious how you big note yourself, but nobody has ever seen any evidence of your supposed huge talents. You say he's not nearly sideways horizontal. Have a look at the photo! He's lower than the board. What? Can't you see that? Tell me how the camera perspective changes it so he would be higher than his board in real life? Get some glasses. Mate, you are so desperate to prove how much you supposedly know, that you constantly shoot yourself in the foot but making rash incorrect statements. And everyone on this forum knows it.
Are you sure about that? Or does an elevated view make it look bigger, since it mixes the water in front of the wave into looking like part of the wave?
Its big enough ! If you've ever seen Koster sail in real life, you know he carries quite a bit of momentum in his moves, he easily made that off the lip !
4-5 would be head high . I've surfed Pipe in winter over 70 days. Sunset mayne 20. Hawaiins call it exactly as we do. Only Hawaiins who sit on the beach doing BBQ's call it the way you did. And they all got scared as sets came thru when they were inside.
next time you are in Hawaii entering the green room at Pipe or charging with Kanga at Sunset, can you go and give the locals having a BBQ at the beach a hard time about being scared by waves?

And please take photos.
LeeD is too modest to have any photos of him taken, but he is occasionally seen with best friends Adriano & PeterMac33 have a beer at the local watering hole
