Sorry to disappoint you but even though you're coming over at the best season wind-wise, the waves definitely need a boat to get to unless you get one of those days where the swell hits magenta beach (probably where Colin was filmed on a big day).

That place is the wave-riders/free-stylers home spot. it's got a long flat run followed by some 50 to 80cm waves at the correct tide.

Do you plan to bring your gear ? Because there is no rental outlet at magenta and no one will let you take rental gear to magenta (approx 3k from anse vata beach)

You can still have fun on the left side of ilot canard (opposite Anse Vata where the rental gear is) as the outside swell lifts on the island small reef.

You're welcome, you see more frontloops than backloops at magenta ;-). But yes that's the spot.

Re the reef, no tours, you have to connect with the locals that go there and they don't go that often, more like waiting for the perfect conditions...

Lifou is a 40 mins flight with the domestic airline (aircal), very nice island, very "roots". Chateaubriand is a mostly a beach break, no suited for windsurfing.
Sometimes it peaks on the outside reef but really not worth it. Been there but I would recommend for suping rather than sailing.

Wow, that's a lot of sails for a couple of weeks !!
better check your luggage weight (plus you'll probably buy a couple of sails here, we're soooo cheap !! ;-) )

for our trade winds and your weight the 5.2 would be your small sail.
