Possesion:
A board which is the first to sail shoreward immediately in front of the wave/swellis said to have possession of the that wave. When it is impossible to determine possession based on the above, that board board which is to windward shall have possession (in the event that two competitors gybe simultaneously).
Elimination Procedure
- Seeded Double Elimination
- In the event of empty spots, 'byes' will be allocated against highest seed competitors.
Right of way rules:
-Competitor coming in shall keep clear of competitor sailing out.
-When two or more competitors are on same wave coming in, a competitor who does not have possession shall keep clear
- Head judge determines penalty - typically the wave the infringement was made on will not count and the top scoring wave (not including that one) will not count.
Judging
- Three or more (odd number) judges (per panel)
- There may be separate wave and jump judges (panels)
- No communication between judges other than by head judge providing guidance
- Scoring is
out of 12 in incriments of 1/10th of a point
- Only best scoring manouvres taken into account
