Its here! The NSW Wavesailing State Titles are all set for Thursday 13th February ? Sunday 16th February. This will be run as a man on man PWA guidelines event so be sure not to miss it, the action is going to be huge to determine the best in the State.

The event is based at Gerroa with options of Windang and Werri beaches to allow competitors to compete in the best conditions possible. Book you accommodation now, there is camping and cabins at seven mile beach caravan park or rent a house from one of the local real estates.

There are prizes galore from our fabulous sponsors including Windsurf N snow, Severne, Hotsails, Ion, K4 fins and Natural Necessity Surf Shop so come along and you could score big time.

Ok im keen to head along but will only be able to do fri-sun if the event doesnt happen on thursday can I get put into the draw for the renaining days?

Hi krusty, it will be fine for you to come friday but You'll need to register at nswwavesailing.org/ to get into the draw. If we sail on Thursday, you will have to come through the 2nd elimination. If we don't sail, you in round 1 still.

Registration is going to close on midnight Wednesday 12th so the draw can be ready for Thursday morning. So all competitors need to register online by then.

Seeding will be done from last years results only.

There will be an open amateurs division. You can only choose between open pro and open am, can't go in both.

Everything is coming together nicely.

Here is the judging guidelines that will be followed for the state titles from the current PWA wave judging criteria. It would be good for all competitors to have a read through these guidelines as all competitors will have to judge some heats.

Wave Riding GuidelinesSailors are judged on the fundamental principals of surfing. Commitment and degree of difficulty, proximity to the critical section, Speed, fluidity and innovative. i.e. ride in the critical section and combine a selection of backside and frontside riding with aggressive bottom turning into vertical attacks and aerial manoeuvres “off the lip”. Points are awarded for the wave selection and the quality and length of the ride and secondly for the manoeuvres pulled off during the ride. Innovative and progressive manoeuvres will be scored highly but incomplete manoeuvres will not be rewarded. i.e landing or falling off the wave Listed below is a generalisation of the highest scoring to lowest scoring manoeuvres on a wave. To score well all of these should be executed or landed on the wave.

Wave Riding Notes

Transitions will only score if executed either on to or off the wave. If it is difficult to determine individual waves then the entire sail in (from outside to inside transition) will count as one wave score. If a sailor is on a wave at the end of the heat, this wave will be scored until the sailor exits the wave. Sailors who sail down the line looking for the spot to do one "big move" will not be scored as highly as someone riding the wave. To gain maximum points sailors should demonstrate as wide a variety of different skills as possible. To encourage progress in wave sailing, new manoeuvres will be scored highly but only if executed in a controlled fashion.

Conditions are looking pretty good this weekend and a double elimination should be achievable. Thursday is possibly going to be a good-excellent day with a nice smallish long period south swell and north east winds. The winds have been starting early recently so an early skippers meeting has been decided.

Gerroa carpark will be the meeting point between 9 to 9.30 with a possible 10.30am start.

All sign on's must be completed by midnight Wednesday.

Possesion:
A board which is the first to sail shoreward immediately in front of the wave/swellis said to have possession of the that wave. When it is impossible to determine possession based on the above, that board board which is to windward shall have possession (in the event that two competitors gybe simultaneously).

Elimination Procedure
- Seeded Double Elimination
- In the event of empty spots, 'byes' will be allocated against highest seed competitors.

Right of way rules:
-Competitor coming in shall keep clear of competitor sailing out.
-When two or more competitors are on same wave coming in, a competitor who does not have possession shall keep clear
- Head judge determines penalty - typically the wave the infringement was made on will not count and the top scoring wave (not including that one) will not count.

Judging
- Three or more (odd number) judges (per panel)
- There may be separate wave and jump judges (panels)
- No communication between judges other than by head judge providing guidance
- Scoring is out of 12 in incriments of 1/10th of a point
- Only best scoring manouvres taken into account

Hi all,

For those that are still deciding wether to make the state titles or not I can give you my thoughts on the forecast.

Tomorrow is looking excellent, all forecasts (except seabreeze) are saying sunny conditions with 20kts north east so it will be 99% guarantee that we will run the first elimination as a minimum. Along with the wind there is a 3ft 9sec South swell so I am expecting shoulder high sets throughout the day providing very good conditions.

From there on, the forecast is interesting. With a little bit of rain in the mix, we will most probably get some pretty good but squally conditions on both Friday and Saturday with some decent East swell on the way again potentially being shoulder to head high.

So all in all, the forecast is pretty good to get some decent conditions so come along and join in. For those that can't make it Thursday/Friday. You are still welcome to come along on the weekend to join in on the social scene.
