Have a look at the 3 minute mark. Looks like they are sailing below sea level:

I was on that trip

That footage is at le Morne in Mauritius - basically one heavy set up - wave drains the reef so it looks like there is only half a foot of water 10 ft in front of the wave

even surfing it you had to be picky or it felt like all your fins were going to get knocked out if you went too far inside - Scotty tore the bejesus out of it - the best sessions happened when i was sailing (i was overpowered and over boarded) - so the camera actually missed the best action.

Great location - but heavy and confronting - especially given the currents and distance off shore - definitely only for the most hardcore and committed sailors

Hookipaa nd the NW desert are an absolute walk in the park by comparison

Finally; some music I can understand, by some musicians I can relate to...

Any idea who it is Matt? I don't see a credit.

I've seen Tombies doing that on a low tide. Quite an awesome sight in glassy conditions when you are looking at the reef in front of the impact zone andwatching it drain back, being sucked up by the barrels marching towards it. makes you realize why the wave is so fast, and takes no prisoners...

Nice one; seeing Ian Chaplin's post-bop stylings in the late 80's got me into the saxophone.

More aussie jazz on aussie windsurfing clips!! What about The Vampires as a contemporary iteration?

I'm down in Gerroa with the family for Father's Day so I'll stay south. Any other recommendations down there?

Talking of controversy, heard you were going to post a review of your new board...

Sound idea. I definitely second The Vampires suggestion. Just wish they'd travel over to the west occasionally....

it's just the tyranny of distance thing. I know they're always happy to be on the road but Perth is really hard with logistics. The only time I've played there was at the Ellington with a contemporary big band and I think we made $50 each. Kind of hard to justify it when the airfares are ten times that. Works both ways though, there are some unbelievable musos from WA but it's really hard to hear em over here; Jamie Oehlers, Ben Vanderwall, Carl Mackay Matt Jodrell...

The bank off the entrance won't break. Needs to be 5ft up. I might go up the gong.
