Hi all,
Should i be thinking about a new hobby, Just starting out in waves this winter, broken 1 mast ext, 1 uni, and 1 sail, and a heap of frustration. All on seperate outings. Is this a normal sacrifice for my first winter wave sailing. Sailed freeride on flat water for last 2 yrs and didnt break any kit. On the up side i have perfected the water start this winter.

Winter can be a bit more challenging, gusty winds and wind direction changes and bigger swell.
Saw a guy with a broken mast and a torn sail at Cottesloe this am, which didn't surprise me as it was so onshore.

Thinking about a new hobby? would someone give this fella a firm slap he's getting delusional..

Yer Rider is right, winter has full on conditions, not your typical wavesailing conditions, you will have more fun in summer in lighter more constant wind, as far as breaking stuff well that comes down to learning how to control your downed gear in the waves and how to get out of dangerous situations fast.

But then you will get better and you will try to hit that lip a bit later or try to jump a bit higher and then you will start to get really worked.. but it's a hell of alot of fun pushing yourself..

As far as my trashed gear this winter only 1 totally destroyed sail 1 torn one, a small ding in my fav board and a brused ego but i wouldn't have traded 1 day of it for anything...

I haven't broken any gear this year either but i have got 2 kids who are doing a good job of trashing their gear that I pay for! It's great to see them pushing themselves!
