Are you serious?
If 20 to 25 knots and 3/4 mast high waves is what you DONT want, then maybe you should stay at Pinnaroo?
Or another option would be to get a wave board and smaller sail?
Im a little confused with the 'blown away' comment? But thats not hard to get me confused

Blown away ment i loved every minute of it and am hoping for similar conditions this year,but not sure if i should maybe buy a 4m sail if it gunna blow 30+ being a month later than i went last year, Pinnaroo point is for Tea bagers, slalom sailers and learners

Just got back from two weeks up north. Not the most consistent wind but decent swell. I'm sure a few others will agree that Sat a few weeks back was a big day. Lots of people swimming for gear and towards the end of the day what would have to be the biggest wave I've ever seen a windsurfer on.

I know I'll cop it for this - of the kitesurfers up there one guy was going for it enough for a non-kitesurfer to say well done pal.

I'll put a few images up in the next day or so.

Looking forward to pics,I have been watching wind on net and thought we would be getting more wind up north by now.Giant waves with marginal wind sounds a bit scary.

Gnaraloo looks amazing. I am so bummed I piked on a trip this year. That wave is the stuff dreams are made of. I keep hoping I will discover a reef break like it in Tasmania west coast but when I look at the footage from it - I have my doubts. Oh well - I will just try and pretend my 3-4 turn ride at BOL is really a 10 turn ride at Gnaraloo.

Hey Potssey,looks like some great waves in Tas,do you get good swell and wind all year and do you have to wear a 5mm wetsuit?

We get good wind and swell all year round being situated in the Roaring Forties. Although last season was really piss weak. October to December is usually the windiest but it has a lot of West in it. Great for jumping on the north coast. Enormous ocean swell hit the west coast.

Jan to April is the afternoon sea breeze pattern for the west coast. Marrawah is great that time of year. Honestly its a frigin dream. I never have to miss a wave because there is no queues to line up in.

It is Cold but its not so much the water but the wind that does that. Even in summer if a big high draws up wind from the lower Arctic regions it can get pretty cold.

I wear a 4.3 mm for about 8mths and other wetsuits 3 - 2mm through summer. Summer can also get really hot when the NE winds blow. Tasmania can change in a couple hours from hot to cold.

If your use to 35 degrees air temp with 25 degree water then your going to feel the cold when you come here. I am use to it now.

A good wetsuit is the most important part of your equipment for Tasmania. It can make the difference between fun and pain. : )

I've just come back from a week in Tasmania and there's no way you'd get me out in those freezing cold conditions! brrrrr

Amazing how quickly the weather can change, too! You wake up to blue skies, getting ready for a nice warm day then 20mins later is pouring rain. wtf?

the same disease affects victoria unfortunately but december to end of feb is tops for seabreezes when the heatwaves are on

Each to their own I guess. I grew up in beautiful North Queensland just opposite the whitsunday passage. Heaps of marine life and you never wear a wetsuit. If you asked me where I would rather have grown up for windsurfing, NQ or TAS - Marrawah?. I would say Marrawah in an instant. The conditions for windsurfing are that good. My friends and I use to dream about a place like this. I just wish I had moved here 10 years ago.

Sometimes I can't feel my hands any more but **** it - as long as I can still grip the boom and get down the line of some big heavy frigin adrenaline loaded wave from the Southern Ocean - who cares!

Pottssy,know what you mean when you talk about a good wetty i was in Melbourne a month ago and went for a surf, A mate lent me his new ripcurl wetsuit or i should say drysuit. I was in 15 degree water for 3 hours and was toasty warm and when i took of the suit my torso was dry I was amazed. I didnt know wetsuit technolagy had advanced so much.Took me 1/2 hour to get it on .Went to look at them in the s/shop while I was there and they are 600 bucks.I have a sister in Tas maybe next time I visit her i will go for a sail,although waves and sets do look very close together,getting your gear crunched by that wouldnt be much fun,but wont matter cause mine will be hire stuff..Ps that day I went for a surf I didnt have booties and cant remember my feet ever being that cold before.Do you have any touble sailing in booties or have you found a good brand?Only time I wear them is at Gnaraloo for that razor blade reef.

No mate - I don't use booties. Damn things are dangerous for me. I keep getting my feet stuck in the straps when I use them. Maybe if I wore them more I would get use to them. Most of Marrawah has sand to launch from so its not a drama normally. The bigger places have reef and rock which sucks because the big waves are when you really don't want your feet to be stuck in straps!

I have thought about anchoring a car tyre tube with a mesh bag in the middle out near the break. Just wear the booties out and back in.
