Hey good people.

Just moved into Gerroa so it would be rude to not get back into windsurfing really. Not really sailed much in the last 10 years or so but after watching a few guys out there the last few days the bug has hit me hard. I can see the water from the driveway so chances are I'll be out most days.

Here's the big question though. What size kit do I need here? Used to Uk conditions where my biggest board was 78litres and generally only sailed on a 3.7, 4.2 or 4.7. Looks a bit light on the inside here so thinking high 90's and an 80 plus 5.3 and 4.7. Do I need a 4.2? Will 5.3 be big enough most days?

Gerror itself you definitley need a floaty board to get the most out of that spot. Best time in a good Seabreeze as far as wind is concerned is from about 12:30 till 2pm. Then the wind will go on and off for a bit before shifting more to the North by about 3pm/ 3:30pm. After that it's cross off and clean but fairly gusty on the inside and very little further down the beach.

I'd say with 90kg you probably want a 92 to 89 l board ... perhaps start with something around 95 to 100 liters and once you get back into things go down in size. As for sail size there are a few people who get by with one or two sails. Personally I think you should be good with 3 to 4 max... 5.3 / 4.7 / 4.2 is probably a good start. Although I don't think you'll use the 4.2 too much for pure wavesailing in Gerror. It's a different story down at Shoalhaven Heads which can get super windy and generally has more NE wind swell coming in.

Also don't forget Windang. Some pretty good wave sailing to be had up there in Southerly. A direction which I personally think doesn't workin Gerroa. If are there during winter keep an eye out for SWer. The Northern end of Seven Mile beach can be awesome in that direction. And if it's proper windy SWer (40knts+) you can try Werri Beach in Gerringong. I have only seen it work well a couple of times in that wind direction but it was super clean.As for 5.3 being big enough that depends on what type of sailing you want to do. If it's pure wavesailing I'd say get a floaty board and dog out with a smaller sail. If you want to always be planning then get something around 6 sqm as well... or just get a SUP. Plenty of good days for SUPping down that way as well.
