It can be tricky to pull a forward in difficult conditions such as light wind. I tried to focus on lifting up on the boom and my front leg, still it could feel sticky when the water is soft.

So actually pressing down on the boom, as the sail opens, releases the board. The boom pops back up naturally and we simply guide it upwind before following it around.
