Just wondering if anyone else is having problems or had problems with the footstrap screws coming loose and has a good solution.

Currently atm after a 2 -4 hours on the water some of my footstraps srews are loosening 3 - 4 full turns.
The board is only 6 months old and the treads on the screws and in the board are all in good nik.
I have thought of using tread lock but its not the best idea, the other idea I had was using wire lock screws like what they use in the aircraft industry, but i can't find them at the correct grade or screw type.

So any suggestion/ideas????????

those washers that have a lil slit in them to hold preasure back on the screw head to stop em vibrating out????

Could be your pads getting more squashed...

I use Loctite Mastergasket 515 in the marine industry on stainless threads when i want to get something back out later rather than using threadlocker which can set screws rather hard, use a small amount and it sponges ont rthe thread rather than setting hard.

I've never had them loosen - tear clean out, yes, but not loosen.
Must be the pads squishing as per PC's suggestion - they do go down from about 10mm down to 2mm pretty quickly

Sounds to me like they're not done up tight enough in the first place and the straps are consequently twisting back and forth which is loosening them.

If the straps aren't moving I cant imagine how they could come loose?

i had a footstrap screw come out of my dads kode 86, i then went to windsurfing perth and got some slightly larger srews, had no problems since. make sure that when you do your footstraps use all the force you can give them because apperently you have arnie to rip by screwing them too tigght

I dont know about putting loctite on there? is only a plastic thread right??
Anyway.. might pay to check if they are bent?
I find I bend footstraps screws, and when they are really bent they come loose..
Does any one else break screws? I replace them ALL twice a season and they still bend and break...

I tighten them up all the same.........F**Kin tight and then half a turn.
I do agree that the foot strap does move and it probably is undoing the screw, But I don't think they can be done up much tighter with fear of breaking the screw off in the board or stripping the tread in the board.
I will have think up a way of ancoring the screw to the footstrap so it can't spin by its self.

I use to bend screws in some other boards too and in the old fibre glass boards plugs where always getting ripped out. This is the first time that the screws are undoing them seleve so quickly.

i have same problem no matter how tight i do them up, and mine end up bent if not snapped off. i've broken at least 10 in the last few years. if i've been lucky i've had a few mm exposed enough to get the pliers onto the thread, but half the time i've had to to drill into the leftover and use the screw extractor. i think its from often rocking back and forth between toes and heels

Are you using JP straps? There should be a plastic spacer with a circle of little raised nodes that press into the deck pad and stop the footstrap rotating - if the straps were a bit loose or you have a big crash that twists the straps then the nodes can break off and the straps will keep twisting which will work the screws loose no matter how hard you tighten them.

Take the straps off and check that this spacer is there/ intact - I'm guessing it's not. Your local JP dealer should have a heap of these spare.

Had the same problem with my Quatro. Looks like I didnt screw them in tight enough the first time I put them in and when they come out it damages the thread of the plug and from then on it doesnt take much for them to loosen and pop again.

I had enough of tighten them everytime I went out, so one day I dabbed a little liquid nail I had lying around and they havent come out since.
