Who makes them in Aus?
Who makes the best?
Who rides them?
How do they compare in cost to production boards?
Whats the typical production time?
Are the warranties the same as a production board?

Any feedback on this would be great, new board time is comming soon and I have been considering a custom for a while, but being from NSW no one makes them or rides them. So I guess it's up to the WA guys to lead the way in this?

Stonesurf...a lot of people over here love them and I have heard good things bout them.

Very reasonable price as well. probably about $500-$800 cheaper than the top boards, maybe even more.

Plus, he's Jaeger Stone's dad so you've gotta think he's done some things right. haha.

A local fellow got an OES wave board made recently (based in Pt Lincoln SA & Maui shaping bays I think) - think they are comparable in price to regular manufacturers - see the Twin fin thread for link (there's a photo of there twinnies)

Nobody mentioned the obvious yet: Rider5 here on seabreeze does sweet customs.
Marty at Delta Designs in Margaret River still does (I'm told)

Not wanting to palm off the Oz brands, but with the Oz v US dollar at the moment it'd be a rare chance to get a cheap Quatro custom.

and i email quatro asking about price of a custom and they didn't reply so they can go stick their custom in there bum holes.

Krusty, I,30-50 (maybe more) Perthians and half of Geraldton are on stoneys.

Love mine and never heard anyone say they didn't rate them.Just simply a great all round wave board for all conditions.

Believe he does interstate orders.

You'd prob save a few quid after getting it shipped to nsw.

Production time depends on how busy he is

Juice builds boards, not on the same scale as Mr Stone (but i reckon he should and employ me as a silent director) ...

once again never heard a bad word about them.

quality boards again, built just 4U - a mate of mine tried the new evil twin and thought bj's new twinny was more dynamic....

I thought the reason he was using polyurethane was that he's allergic to epoxy.

Are you sure you have this right??

Sounds strange... If anyone is still interested in a Quatro custom the guy you want to check in with is Pascal Bronnimann. He is their Sales Manager and all round nice guy.

Last I checked with them their customs were selling for between US$2200 and US$3000 depending on construction, paint job, foot straps, fin etc. .

They will ship to OZ but you it will cost extra and you will be hit with GST so might be worth flying over to pick up if you are really interested in one of their customs.

Using a local guy would definitely a cheap option is money is an issue.

All boards are rough shaped by a machine and then finished by Keith based on the customers specifications.

nope! not sure at all....must have got my foams mixed up....back too windsurf school for me but if that what it's called then yeah....the closed cell foam ..that can't breath.

i tried to give u a mention this morning decrep as one of the 3 WA shaperz i know of and the post mysteriously disapeared but now it's come back...wierd.

so there u go krusty...theres not many unfortunatley, could do with more faces on the scene

Mark does post here every once in a while, so he may well answer himself.

A years ago (and as far as I know still is) he was using a super light Burford polyrethane blank that was developed at his request. Glass and polyester d-cell foam sandwich on the bottom and timber sandwich on the deck.
The boards I've seen look great, they have a reputation for durability, don't suck water (closed cell foam), and can easily repaired at your average surfshop, as they don't use polystyrene or epoxy, and weight is comparable to production boards of similar volume.

Yep got out at 3.30pm. Rigged the 5.7m.

Wind was gusting in the 15-20knt range. I was planing 90% of the time. Got some nice shoulder to head high waves, two to three bottom turn at the most nothing to rave about but fun all the same.
Decreps board (Wave Wand) rides waves just like my 6'3" surfboard. It is just so quick off the top.

Thanks for the replies guys, looks like the stonesurf boards are the go. Shame there arn't that many shapers anymore. But at least everyone is raving about how good his boards are!
